I've had it for years, too many years of amplifiers, concert and jet engines. No cure.

wow, i didn't realize how many of us have this problem.
i got mine by not going to the doctor soon enough with all the sinus problems i've had. i too got extreme vertigo for months!!!! i got tested and i have perm. damage in my right inner ear. it's mueniers (sp). when i was first having problems the dr. gave me a med that helped get rid of the ringing but I don't take it anymore. it did help. I just deal with it now.
However, my balance is really effected, especially when the noise is too loud near my ears.
sounds like pcbfan and i have a lot in common.

I guess I'm gonna have to be more active outside because when out there I do not hear it.
I bought a sound machine last night and it helps. If it does not get any worse I can deal with it.
Before the mp3 player at work I was one of the few that wore hearing protection religiously.
I'm always running front end loaders and forklifts and when I got the mp3 player it sorta took the place of ear plugs drowning out machine noise. For some reason I guess I never thought it would damage my hearing but that's got to be it. I don't care about my mp3 player now and might as well throw it out.
I talked to a co-worker today, a 26 year old Iraq war vet who got it in 03 from machinery and weapons. When I described it he knew exactly what I was talking about and basically said "get used to it". Maybe so but I have an appointment on thursday with an ENT regardless.
