I've used Expedia and had no problems.

Depending on which type of purchase you make, you may not know the travel times. Typically when I want to go somewhere, I know what time I need to get there or what time I need to leave. Many times you can find travel just as cheaply through the airline's website and you'll get the frequent flier miles.

Mobissimo is a good site to check if you want to buy from the airline.

As for Expedia, they may be fine now, but after they almost stranded me in New Zealand I refuse to use them.

There are a lot of other sites, but I use Igoyou.com....you can check all of the major travel sites at the same time....and then be sure to compare them to the airline site.
I've used travelocity, expedia, hotwire and travelworm......never had a problem with any of them.

I use priceline constantly for hotels - but for airfare I find that the airlines sites most always have the best deals.

Good hints on using priceline for the best deals here www.biddingfortravel.com. I stayed at a 4* Westin downtown Seattle last week for $60. using priceline.

I use the sites to compare then book through the airline. The prices are usually the same or better at the airline's site and if you have to change your plans it can be very tough to do so through Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.

I've booked last minute packages through Travelocity without any problems, saving a lot of money each time.

I have also used Expedia for package deals without any problems. They do allow you to put in your frequent flyer number to get credit for the miles but you can't redeem the miles through Expedia. They do charge a booking fee if you call them to book a flight only. No fee if you book online. I did book my next trip in September through the airline and got a good deal. (It was for the flight only).

I dunno.................Carradonna has always seemed to be insanely expensive. I've always found it cheaper to book my dive trips through the airline and resort web sites. For my upcoming trip to Grand Cayman, I saved almost $500 by NOT using Carradonna. For our trip to Bonaire last year, Carradonna wanted $700 more than I paid.Like I said...........I dunno.

If I were booking a whole vacation, I'd absolutely use a travel agent. Not a doubt in my mind. Worth their weight in *gold*!!

My word of advice is to read the terms of service agreement before buying anything from any of the online sites because most of them contain legal language that absolves them of any and all fault, no matter what goes wrong. That means if you accidentally pick the wrong dates, they don't have to do anything to help you fix it. Or if you put in the wrong name or spell it incorrectly, you will find that it is a real hassle to correct. Also be aware that customer service isn't the strong suit of any online booking tool.

I find that it's worth paying my travel agent her fee because even when I do simple trips, she manages to find me deals and if there is a problem, her fault, my fault, the airline's fault, she's there to take care of it.

Kayak, in my opinion, is brilliant. It's simply an aggregator; it looks at Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc., as well as all of the airline sites, and compiles the best deals together. If you are looking exclusively for airfares, I think this is the best way to go. www.bing.com/travel also does the same thing and is very useful. Neither are quite as good for hotels though. For hotels, I recommend doing your research on the internet, finding the deal you want, then call the hotel directly.
