From what I've heard, VitaCoco and O.N.E. Coconut water are similar to Zico. Might want to check those out if you can't get Zico.Frank4 wrote:I am a little bummed, Zico is not available in my areaTwelveVoltMan wrote:From http://www.zico.com/

anyone else notice it says "Buffettnews.com" next to Jimmy's head in the picture of how to make his favorite drink? Did BN get some publicity in the magazine?Tiki Bar wrote:I was thinking... you forgot the lime!

Nah, that was just because I captured the picture from BN's news page... (Click "previous entries" on the bottom.)
I'm pretty sure phjim adds that so others can't "borrow it" without giving credit to where they got it online.
PS: The BN News page, for those who don't ever look at it.

It's cool, and it seems that it includes some items that don't always make the News Forum.

Re: Jimmy, Men's Journal, Caribbean Rum
It depends on your tastes as to what constitutes a quality rum. Personally, I like the rums of Puerto Rico and some of the specialty rums of Grenada. I like a smooth sipping rum. Don Q makes outstanding rums and are very reasonably priced. Even their clear rum is sippable. The anejos are the best straight sippin' rums. Bacardi is also a good rum although I haven't been as much a fan lately. The spiced stuff and flavored crap is wretched in my opinion. Not that it is bad but not a flavour I enjoy. The sad thing is that most of the Caribbean rums now use imported molasses. Don Q claimed that they were going to use island cane again a couple of years ago, I don't know if they followed through with this plan.

You might think about running the coconut water through a strainer.srkmrd wrote:I was able to find coconut water at our local grocery but it did take a little searching. It was on the isle with the ethnic foods. I am not fond of the little chuncks of coconut in it because they keep stopping up my straw but the drink itself was very good. I tried it with a dark rum and a light rum. I like the dark best but I am a big Myers fan.
Anyone know of a brand of coconut water that does not have the chunks? And where you can find it?

Unfreakinbelievable!!! Walked into my local home-owned grocery yesterday and thought, oh what the heck, I'll look for coconut water, even though we're not very culturally diverse here in Akron. Son of a gun if they didn't have a huge display of Zico at the end of the organic aisle. Will wonders never cease! Will be trying it this evening.

Ok, OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE DRINK. With just the coco water, rum and lime, it tastes just like my very first Mojito in 1997 at El Meson de Pepe's on Mallory Square. Tried it with lime, but like it without. Thanks to all who posted...I'm a happy wench!

I think I read in one of JB's notes that he had on his Green Tomato SUV, he kept handy a bottle of Bancourt Rum from Hati. After reading the article, I went out and bought a bottle, it was good, but I am just not much on Rum, but I am working on it. I could not find the C-water but I am sure I will.

Yeah, Barbancourt 8 year old is really good. I normally make these with Mount Gay Eclipse, but I should definitely try it with the Barbancourt!wanderingtoes wrote:I think I read in one of JB's notes that he had on his Green Tomato SUV, he kept handy a bottle of Bancourt Rum from Hati. Anybody else but me think of Johnny Carson's 'Karnak the Magnificient' skit when you saw the title of the thread ?
"Jimmy...Men's Journal...Caribbean Rum"
Name a H.O.G, a log, and a grog.
Sorry, H.O.G. is the only thing I could come up with...I have no idea whether Jimmy is 'regularly randy'.

I found Goya coconut water in the ethnic aisle of my supermarket. It comes in a can, so I don't have high hopes, but it was all I could find.
I have some Pyrat rum, I'm going to try it with that.

Years ago when I lived in the French Quarter I used to go to the French Market and get coconuts and bring them home, break out the Mount Gay and ice, pop the coconut open, pour it over the ice and have me a nice drink. It was refreshing.
Rhum Barbancourt is very good.

Goya brand has chunks and is my least favorite..usually found in the ethnic isles around here and in a can..
The other brands are usually found in the organic / healthy areas of our grocery store..
They are packaged in a foil / juice box kind of container...
I may try blending the goya to see if it becomes more palatable...
Goya also makes a ginger beer for dark and stormys..although I haven't tried that one yet...

Do not care for Goya brand of coconut water
Vitacoco or O.N.E brands I have found no difference in the taste.
I like them as a energy drink with a lot less sugar!!!

Re: Jimmy, Men's Journal, Caribbean Rum
As far as the Rum goes, by and large, the rums from the English speaking islands differs conciderably from those from the Spanish speaking islands.
The English speaking islands are generally much smoother.
Pusser's (BVI), Mt. Gay (Barbados) and say Meyers(Jamaica) seem to have little in common with Rums from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic, other than the fact that they are distilled from sugar cane.
I wouldn't contemplate sitting down and sipping a Barcardi on the rocks with a quater of a key lime, while the thought of having the same with a Pussers in quite enchanting.
On the flip side of the coin, I recently had Zaya rum which is distilled in Trinadad and loved it. Then I found that it originates from Guatamala and only recently moved to Trinadad. So I'll be a horse's tail on that one!!!

Re: Jimmy, Men's Journal, Caribbean Rum
I've been researching coconut waters, and looking around for them. I see Vita Coco and Zico are available at Amazon (didn't check ONE, but I bet they are too), but I wanted to find it locally to try it before buying a case. They get mostly rave reviews for their healthy hydration benefits, and as a post workout beverage of choice. And some seem to just like that coconut water reminds them of island vacations.SharkysMV1 wrote:From what I've heard, VitaCoco and O.N.E. Coconut water are similar to Zico. The reviews seem to steer me to Vita Coco, and I like their website: http://www.vitacoco.com/index.html "Get ready for your 2-minute hydration vacation." They also list being available in Target stores, but mine didn't have any. There are nearby SuperTarget's that I may have to look into.
So, after calling around, I found a store with ONE, and I will be picking some up today, so I can try a "JIMMY JUICE" tonight!
