blackjack wrote:I HATE that every company thinks it best to let people go on a Friday. You end up like you did frustrated over the weekend unable to claim for unemployment for at least two days and feeling angry and somewhat powerless. I'm sure some study tells employers Friday is the better day, but having been there, I don't think so.

Good luck Rich. It worked out best for me in the end and I hope it does for you as well.
that two days over the weekend just gives someone so inclined time to plan in a situation where the frustration builds, and builds. Then Monday, the news gets a ratings boost when there is a workplace shooting.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

The good news is I finally got thru to the unemployment office. The bad news is if I reopen a claim now I am entitled to $63 per week. If I wait till October I am eligible for $270 per week. My friends make fun of me for being a cheapskate, but I don’t know if I can be that cheap.

Just read this. That sucks Rich.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'm so sorry Rich. Not that it helps, but we've been there too.
Even tho' we've got another job, it doesn't really feel like it since there's barely any $ coming in. :sigh:

Sending positive thoughts your way that you get another job super fast.

Sorry to hear your news but things will turn out OK in the end. Our thoughts are with you and wish you all the very best in finding a new job. We have been through this over here so know how you feel. Our son lost his job end of May with his firm closing down and he is looking for employment. All the very best to you Rich.

So I answered an ad on Craigslist today. It came with a phone number, bookkeeper job, doesn’t say much else. So I called. He asks me about my QuickBooks skills. I tell him. He says he is being audited and needs someone to fix his general ledger, can I do that? I say sure. Talked to him for about 5 mins. He wants to meet me. I offered to send my resume; he said bring it with you when you come down, when do you want to meet. I said I’ll be there in an hour. Well it turns out he runs a small production studio. I give him my resume, which is filled with entertainment industry experience. “You have experience processing residuals? You worked at AXIUM? You are the guy we are looking for!” so he is going to check my references and call me. I might start Monday.

If I get a job this fast I didn’t even have time to feel sorry for myself yet.

Wish me luck!!
