Any news?rich_big wrote:So I answered an ad on Craigslist today. It came with a phone number, bookkeeper job, doesn’t say much else. So I called. He asks me about my QuickBooks skills. I tell him. He says he is being audited and needs someone to fix his general ledger, can I do that? I say sure. Talked to him for about 5 mins. He wants to meet me. I offered to send my resume; he said bring it with you when you come down, when do you want to meet. I said I’ll be there in an hour. Well it turns out he runs a small production studio. I give him my resume, which is filled with entertainment industry experience. “You have experience processing residuals? You worked at AXIUM? You are the guy we are looking for!” so he is going to check my references and call me. I might start Monday.
If I get a job this fast I didn’t even have time to feel sorry for myself yet.
Wish me luck!!

Re: laid off again
So homeboy was supposed to call my references on Fri, and then call me Sat to tell me if they want me. I drove to Phoenix and back on Sat (yes, it was a long drive), no call. Sunday I emailed him, no reply. Today I called; he was not in the office. I told the lady on the phone who I was and what I was calling about, she said she thinks they have already filled the position. I asked, ‘filled it with me, right?’ She didn’t know, was going to call the boss on his cell and call me back. I just got home, its 9 o’clock and there is no call or message. So I don’t know what’s on, but it sure looked better a few days ago than it does now.

Re: laid off again
They never called me back from the production studio.
I did have an interview today with a payroll company. This company was my first choice of where to go when AXIUM went under. But they had a ton of people apply then(everyone from AXIUM). The they said no, not till the writers strike is over. Then no, not till SAG signs a contract. I never stopped sending them my resume. Every few months they would get another one. They called last week, I interviewed today. It was good. They will call in two weeks to let me know either way. So we will see.
The other two places I interviewed never called back for second interviews nor responded to my follow-up emails.
I hope this payroll company works out. It will be a good place to work and I am a great candidate for the position.

Re: laid off again
You know what...It annoys me that companies can't have simple courtesy anymore. You used to at least get a rejection letter. I realize there are lots of applicants and lots of rejections, but still.
Common courtesy is dead, or at least terminally ill, I fear.

Very well said. You'd expect more from some of these companies, wouldn't you?blackjack wrote:You know what...It annoys me that companies can't have simple courtesy anymore. You used to at least get a rejection letter. I realize there are lots of applicants and lots of rejections, but still.

This opportunity sounds much better than the Craig's list deal. I hope it works out for you. I've noticed that HR departments for the most part are horrible. Knowledge of the position they are screening for is usually lacking and respect for the applicants is non-existent.

I just saw this and I have yet to read all the posts, so if your situation has been taken care of, disregard, but I would suggest you call your state representative (I believe they are called Assemblymen in Cali, but I digress) and see if their constituent services person can help you get in contact with someone who can help.
