LOL!!!
I checked on TM for Pine Knob and you can only get single tix. When I entered two, nothing came up. Maybe that's why Bubba is coming back to the D two years in a row for the first time in a long time.

Really, the economy in Detroit is el sucko, but we're still paying the price to see the man. I think it's kind of funny that Detroit is much worse off, economically, than Chicago, but tickets sold out in about 2 minutes here. We've gone to Chicago to see Jimmy for more than ten years, but probably not this year. It's still a possibility since my daughter lives there and it's a free place to stay, but tickets aren't cheap.

As a former Detroit resident, I agree, but ticket prices are considerable higher at Toyota Park than they are for Pine Knob or the Palace. By nearly double in many instances.
That is probably the single driving force behind low attendance in Chicago. If he were to do a show at Tinley Park again, the outside venue, I beleive he would probably sell out again in Chicago.

over the years jimmy got in a mode where he would do multiple shows in major metro areas cutting his expenses and shifting the travel expenses to his fans. (ever the astute businessman) problem is the economy tanked and and in my opinion his fan based was hit harder than most. his fans aren't going to multiple shows nor are they are traveling to shows. this leaves alot of unsold tixs..... just look at vegas for proof....

I had to take a $100 loss on 4 pavilion tix for the Nissan LABOR DAY WEEKEND show, just to get them gone. If I don't get orchestra next year on the onsale date, I'm waiting until show day and buying CHEAP!

Ya know what else may be a factor? Jimmy's shows are annual events, always have been. Most of the rest of the industry historically only toured to support an album (showing my age). Now it seems like every country band and every rock band out there is on tour every single Summer, whether they have a new album (CD) or not, these are becoming annual events to people as well. There are reunion concerts, collaborative concerts, etc. I think people are going to other events more than ever, and most are cheaper than Jimmy.

Good example right here. In the past I've traveled to see both Chicago shows and the Alpine show, and other years gone to Detroit. Still others, been to Vegas. I'm not seeing any of those shows this year. The economy, plain and simple.

Fans haven't lost their will... so much as they've lost just their way to PAY.
As I see it, Jimmy can do one of two things:
1. Drop the now-overpriced tickets prices that are inhibiting a good many of his fans from attending more of his shows...or
2. Hold the line on prices, and play fewer sold-out shows to a more exclusive, affluent audience.
I was a bit disillusioned by his West Coast "strategy" this year, so I won't be so inclined to bet on things just falling back into line.

Wouldn't be surprised if MSG is canceled. Not on the MSG website yet. didn't go last year because of the $$.

I don't know why it doesn't sell, but after going to JB concerts for over two decades (my first two were cancelled due to 'lack of interest' can you believe that?! More people knew back then who Jamie Brockett was than Jimmy Buffett!!) I can tell you why we don't go to Toyota Park----can't go and watch with friends, no grass, higher prices! We've gone for years as a celebration of surviving, making it "one more year around the sun" and used Chicago as a center point for surrounding friends to trek to and celebrate---St. Louis, MO, Columbus, OH, various Iowa locations--for examples. We started on the grass, he's meant for the grass and natural hillsides. We use to sit and listen, spread out, dance later as a build up. Now, stand from beginning, no sitting, packed wall-to-wall. Then, he seemed to start falling in love with stadiums, switched from Tinley Park (God bless and will always miss Poplar Creek) where 10, 12, 24 friends could get together and stay together on the grass. Then, Toyota, no grass, no more than six together so say good bye to the rest of your party for the rest of the evening, and with grass gone, infield prices go way up, leaving only opposite endzone seats for the usual grass patron. I even wrote Jimmy a letter who use to "feel for you guys out here on the lawn". Guess he forgot about us. He also use to say his songs were was "the background music to people's lives". Well, it's getting tougher and tougher as it moves to the foreground, at least via the concerts. We've taken to setting up screens and speakers outside in the country since the further we get away distance wise, the more people don't really 'see' Jimmy anymore, but move to watching the concert on screen. So, what's the difference? Make your own foreground and use Jimmy as "you" choose instead of how Ticketmaster and these less conducive venues herd us. Plus, the money talks, and even on a computer, the tickets are getting so hard to get hold of in the opening 10 to 15 minutes of sales. You start to feel like an addict chasing a fix. Alpine Valley still does not have as good a sound system as many and oversells basically EVERY hot concert especially Buffett. But it's still on the grass, as many as you can get together, and with a 62 year old troubador, we are selective but still grab the experience that is fast "fading like a flare". Thankfully, we had the early years before he became more of a novelty to all than a true troubador to so many others.

"An addict chasing a fix" is the perfect description of how it feels frantically typing on the computer just hoping to get two tickets together.

dropping his ticket prices after seeing that the shows werent selling as well as previous years would have been a good message to his loyal fans. maybe things will be different next year unless he is content to playing to smaller crowds. regardless he still gets paid the same amount. the question is does he care if the crowds arent what they used to be?
