Yeah ... agreed. And I shouldn't have presumed to take over song parody duty from "'Bits The Master".popcornjack wrote:Surfpirate just ain't right...C-Dawg wrote: I LOVE THAT SONG!!!!![]()

Oh .... and the Beatles cover doesn't personally bother me ... I actually kind of like it.

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
There are two kinds of musicians. Those who are influenced by the Beatles, and those who are lying.
With that said, the song is great, is fun, the audience loves it, the band loves it. As most Buffett fans know...Jimmy Buffett is a huge Beatles fan. Who the hell in music isn't?? They pretty much changed popular music into what it is. Peter Mayer, Jim Mayer, Roger Guth, Mac McAnally, Ralph MacDonald, and Robert Greenidge have all mentioned the Beatles as an influence. Especially Peter. He is coming out with an album this Fall entitled Beyond Abbey Road.
I say keep doing it. An insult to Parrot Heads? Oh c'mon now!

My soon to be former mother in law... is the master of quote attributed to other people
one of the quotes on a wall in her house is...
dance if no one is watching,
sing if no one is listening
Why the hell not on that quote. Life is pretty hard for a lot of people these days, if the hardest part of your life is you are at a Jimmy Buffett concert and everyone is singing "Yellow Submarine" , then you are doing pretty freaking good. Dude, it's a song by The Beatles. All they did was make music and make a lot of people really happy in doing so. GET OVER IT. Okay, it's not going to bring the troops home from Iraq or Afganistan, it's not going to lower the interest rates, or make Russia like us anymore. It's a freaking cover song and enjoy it for what it is. If the worst thing about your life is you don't like a cover song at a JB concert. Then you are doing better then the rest of us
That is my fifty cents on this..........
I thank the Lord for the people I have found

No denying that. I am not a huge Beatles fan, but without them, some of the music we love today, both classic stuff and new stuff, would be different. They are right up there with with Elvis, Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, The Stones, Jimi Hendrix, etc.Bwana Paul wrote:There are two kinds of musicians. I am a musician and huge music fan, of all sorts. I took a class in college called "The History of Rock & Roll". We spent almost an entire week on the Beetles. By far the best class I ever took in college.

I like the song a lot, but it gives me a HECK of an earworm when I hear it. Ok now I'm singing it in my head. And will for the next 4-6 days.

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
Just back from the Cincinnati concert. OMG, the first thing I was going to post was how AWFUL Yellow Submarine was. Did not fit the show, was a major downer. EVERYONE we went with said everything about the concert was AWESOME except for YS. Totally disappointed in that for sure. But we still had a blast!bonefish wrote:Been looking at the set lists as I prep for my Chicago and Wisconsin upcoming shows and noticed that at almost every show this year, JB is playing 'yellow submarine' by the Beatles during an encore. Not only do I not like the Beatles, but I absolutely hate that song. No particular reason, just don't like it one bit. I'm afraid after a great 2+ hrs of JB and the CRB, that song is going to taint my experience since it'll be one of the last ones I hear.
SOMEBODY HELP ME!!
If he asked me for 2 encore songs, I'd request
1) Cowboy in the Jungle
2) Cool Change (by The Little River Band-that's a song I'm actually surprised he hasn't covered yet.)
There's a JB lyric for every situation in life.

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
The official Richard vote is..... thumbs down. I didn't like it when I heard it online but figured I would wait since everybody said it was fun live. Nope. I changed the lyrics similar to the ones mentioned earlier and it made it better but I would have rather had a JB song that doesn't get played much. Although I guess I can't complain too much since I got to hear Rocky Racoon! The lady beside me asked if Peter was Bon Jovi. LOL

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
Well he didn't do it as an encore in Cincy. I wasn't sure about him doing the song when I heard it on RM at a previous concert. But I gotta tell you, it plays really well at the concert, was a lot of fun and the crowd had a great time with it. I really enjoyed live.....a lot.bonefish wrote:Been looking at the set lists as I prep for my Chicago and Wisconsin upcoming shows and noticed that at almost every show this year, JB is playing 'yellow submarine' by the Beatles during an encore. Now if he plays it and you really dislike it, go get a beer or pee.
