Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
I would not have normally seen "Yellow Submarine" as a proper closing song for JB, but it turned out perfect for the latest Alpine Valley Concert when rain started at the beginning of the concert and rained throughout. For some reason, especially with a lot of yellow ponchos dispersed throughout the crowd, 40, 000 whimsically singing "We all live in a Yellow Submarine..." seemed most appropo. It was more 'fun' and in kind of blowing off Mother Nature in her lack of support, and he did not finish with the song, just had some fun with us. He should keep "Singing in the rain" on standby. I'm no particular fan of it either, but under THOSE circumstances we needed all the warmth, whimsy and "what the hey" we could muster. Grilled cheese is no Buffett staple either but it was great for cold, drenched land of cheeseheads. Roll with it...

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
Alpine was my first live yellow submarine experience as well, and I absolutely loved it! Big fun!
I was raised on Beatles and Buffett, and had a big time singing along. I couldn't believe the friend with me didn't know the words, but she was dancing and singing the chorus anyway.

Anybody else who grouches about the song, just remember this:

btw, Tiki — nice new picture for the avatar.... was that from last Saturday?

Now I know this Joe down in Mexico.
He went there to work on his tan.
For years he's been plugged into blenders and songs.
They call him the Twelve Volt Man

I agree. No glory days, and thank the gods that he's not doing werewolf in london any more either! Yellow Submarine was a step up from both of them. and in AC and JB, both got a warm reception!Richard wrote:Funny, I said the same thing. The one positive thing I said was it wasn't as bad as Glory Days.

Not sure where Yellow fits with me, but somewhere in the Math Sucks, Hokey range, but it is only three or four minutes, of an otherwise good moment.

As for Yellow Submarine... on its own, i'm not a big fan, but when he plays it near the end of the show (though hopefully not as the encore), everybody really gets into it. So it's tough to hate on it too much

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
I think most of you are missing the point.....Yellow submarine isn't about you or I, or even Jimmy, but a shout out to Peter Mayer's latest project "Beyond Abbey Road".
Last year Nadirah sang "Creola" during Jimmy's shows to give her CD some advertising, and Mac has sang and gotten props for his music..now it's Peter's turn. So, rather than B&M....how about putting it in context and enjoying it for what it is.

That makes sense.
AND the band has a great time on it!
But it still seems out of place. Of course, I'm so old I remember when it was new!

Re: Who else here hates "Yellow Submarine"?
Good point. At Nissan on 9/5 JB & Peter sang "Rocky Raccoon" after Jimmy mentioned again about Peter's new "Beyond Abbey Road" album coming out. Then they dropped "Yellow Submarine" from the encore list for the first time, I think, in this tour.C-Dawg wrote:I think most of you are missing the point.....Yellow submarine isn't about you or I, or even Jimmy, but a shout out to Peter Mayer's latest project "Beyond Abbey Road".

I have always really admired JB for promoting the solo efforts of his CRB and other guest musicians......as well as acknowledging the song writers of his various covers over the years, too
