Okay ... here's the news.

ImageNew York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly (THE POET, TRUNK MUSIC, THE LINCOLN LAWYER, THE BRASS VERDICT and THE SCARECROW) didn't have a recipe to share, but offered something very unique.

Terrell (Terry) McCaleb, the main character in Connelly's novel BLOOD WORK (made into a movie with Clint Eastwood), faces some of the same hurdles that loom in Vicki's future. The former FBI agent/heart transplant recipient is called back to work against the advice of his team of heart doctors to solve a murder.

Connelly has graciously donated autographed copies of BLOOD WORK to support our campaign to help Vicki with transplant-related costs.

In responding to my request for a recipe, Connelly told me, "I have steered clear of doing these sort of things. (I get asked all of the time.) But I am torn because I have some familiarity with this as a very close friend got a heart transplant and encountered this very issue. I wrote a book inspired in part by him as well (BLOOD WORK). Could I donate signed books to the cause? Maybe sell them through the site mentioned below?"

So that's what we're doing ... I have the books ... Connelly is one of the good guys out there working every day to tell consistently great stories ... the book is quite handsome, as you will see at the Parties That Matter website, and each one has been autographed by the author.

I've been able to get books from a list of authors, but never more than one at a time ... and certainly never anything remotely this generous.

So ... if you're looking for a good who-done-it and want to help us help Vicki, click on the link below and place your order. The books are $30 or $31 if using PayPal. 100% of the proceeds of the sale of these books will go to Vicki.

A special shout out to Mr. Play and SurfPirate for getting the page up on the website ... and of course, to Michael Connelly, for making this possible!

And here's a link to the piece I did on Connelly prior to the release of his most recent best seller, THE SCARECROW.

In order to help streamline the process and hopefully save on some shipping expense, we prefer to hold these until we mail the cookbooks in November or December. As I receive payments I am storing all of the information, and I will provide updates as we get closer to the publication date.

Wow, this is absolutely awesome. I'm so overwhelmed. I have to read the book now! How very generous of him to do this. Words can't really express my appreciation. You guys are the most wonderful folks in the world! This is definitely going to be a journey for me. I talked to one man last week who had a heart transplant and it took him 2 years to recover. Actually you just don't get a new heart and you're fine again. You are really trading one disease for another with the risk of anti-rejection and infections - which is common. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

You are a true wonder! You have so many contacts and the ability to do so much in so many ways. And you never hesitate to help in "every" way possible. That is a rare quality that you should be proud of. You continue to brighten my life and my days and I gratefully thank you!
