Thanks to our graphic designer here at the paper ... Eva Froneberger ... she overheard me talking about the cookbook and volunteered to handle the cover for us .... and the spine's supposed to be the same color as the lettering ... will have to work that out when we send the order in ... I sure hope they can handle the gradient shading ... it looks so much better than a solid color. :P

Question: Why are some of the recipes proofed and others not?

This is a team effort, and Vicki is going through them herself. I heard from her a couple of nights ago, and you can expect to see some more progress soon. She was feeling well enough to make plans for the State Fair today with her grandkids today using her scooter, so that's great news! She said her next appointment with the transplant nurse and cardiologist is this Tue 10/6.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win

Speaking of team efforts - I signed up to help out the All-Tri marathon charity group on Saturday mornings. Basically I show up with food and water for the runners and provide course support while they are training. Starting tomorrow I get paid $50 a Saturday for the next 10 weeks, and I'm donating all of the money to help Vicki.

What's involved with "proofing"? Is is a mater of spelling? or is there more to it?

If I were doing it, it would probably be mostly tasting, and you could expect the book in 2012 or so...

Spelling and continuity ... and since Vicki's the cook, she's going through them for accuracy ...

I've been editing for consistency ... if more than one person has submitted a recipe, there's a good chance the data (name, BN screen name and location) don't match up exactly ... and the program's pretty picky about that ... so, I go in and fix them so everything ____________ submits is together.

It's also important that we have consistency in amount of ingredients, putting the pre-heating the oven instructions at the beginning of the instructions. There are several things that need to be looked.

OK, I've been wondering if there was something wrong with the two I submitted other then the fact that I didn't specify what kind of apples for the cake. (up to the user according to Tommy who I got the recipe from by the way)

Don: The program's set up to show "edited" any time we look at them, I think ... "Proofed is like the final step."

We'll be going over them one more time before the first draft is sent to the publisher. :D

Actually, I think the pink is closer to magenta ... I'm going to talk to the publisher Wednesday on my day off and see if (1) they do gradients and (2) if they can match our lettering to the color of THEIR spine ... [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Keep in mind that image is just my *mock up* of what the cookbook may look like. At Bill's request I used the image they sent for the book and created a quick image that I put up on the partiesthatmatter.org website to show a *sample* book to go along with the web page.

But it should be a close approximation.
