What should you eat before a five hour long exam where you can't take breaks? I frequently feel really sick when my blood sugar gets too low, so I'm really concerned about this.
My time keeps running during breaks, and everyone says there isn't enough time to answer all the questions even without taking a break. And I am a slow test taker And you can't have anything in your pockets.
So, the question is... What (other than meat as I am a vegetarian) will give me enough energy to last five hours without having to use the restroom?

Fruit. You could have an apple in the middle of the exam. It's nature's candy. Or, if the test is not going well, you could drink tequilla or do jello shots.

what exam is this? we complain that our students taking the SAT get almost no breaks over the course of 4 hours, but 5 hours with no break is completely unreasonable, and, toward the end becomes a test of endurance more than anything else.

Is there a room you can leave it in?
I understand what you said about needing every minute of the 5 hours but if you start feeeling crappy because your blood sugar is dropping, taking a 1 minute break to scarf down something and getting your focus back is probably better then not having your total attention for the rest of the test. Just my $.02.
Good luck on this exam - it sounds like a killer. I too do not test well and get low blood sugar after a while so I do feel for you.

i hear what you are saying about having a back up plan. tho, in order to leave the room you have to stand in line to "sign out" and the stand in line again to have your id checked and "sign in" so i would be looking at 10 minutes (or 7 mulitple choice questions)
i will bring an apple just in case. thank you for the suggestion

perhaps instead of an apple maybe apple juice. You could probably slam down a box of apple juice quicker than you could eat an apple.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
Protein and carbs before, cheese sandwich or something. I took the Series 7 years ago (4 hours) and don't remember if we could bring snack food in or not. But I agree with whoever said the time out might be worth it in the end, just bring something you can eat quickly, maybe even those peanut butter and cracker things. Although swallowing peanut butter maybe not so much

I would eat eggs, raisin bran, yogurt and a couple cups of water.
Now I know this Joe down in Mexico.
He went there to work on his tan.
For years he's been plugged into blenders and songs.

LOL. I think I'd stay away from anything with 'bran'
LOL! Granted if you are not used to high fiber foods they can have some adverse consequences. However if you are used to a high fiber diet then it is by far one of the most effective foods at reducing hunger.

3. Take good care of yourself before the test. Good physical care includes the following:
Get a good night’s rest before the test. Eat to do well on the test. Have a protein-filled dinner the night before the test, and a meal high in complex carbohydrates such as pasta before the test. Caffeine and sugar filled snacks before and during the test can increase your anxiety. Eat fruit instead.

Don't have alcohol the night before either.
no water, no tissues (even if you are sick and you use their tissues), no jackets... if you go in the room with a jacket or sweater on, you can't take it off. if your glasses are bothering you, you can't take them off either (not that you would want to for the most part). you can't wear a watch or jewelry. you can't cross your legs, slide your shoes off or touch your face during the test. they video tape you, take mug shots and finger prints. it's all kinds of fun
