So what IS Jimmy doing in October?

Post by TraderRick »

OK-Look I don't want to start up the Cancelled West Coast Tour thread again. Needless to say it's a sore subject with a lot of us and hopefully we all got our chance to vent. But could someone tell me what Jimmy is actually doing in October? Tailgate appearances at LandShark Stadium? Half-time concerts? Bonefishing? It sure seems to be related to the LandShark Stadium deal but has anybody heard for sure? Just wonderin'...

i doubt anything will be done at Landshark Stadium in Oct....Marlins have a shot for the playoffs and dates aren't set for that...also the Dolphins are home so i don't see anything happen with a regular concert date....if he does a half time concert...they have 15 minutes to set up and be off the field....tailgate would be to season ticket holders only i'm sure in a tent....and it would in my guess be a seperate event to sell tickets......what would be cool is New Years Eve show there....i don't think it would conflict with any of the bowl games!!!

My bet is a big weekend show in the South Florida area, but not necessarily at the stadium.
Something that might provide a source of video clips for a local, maybe even national ad campaign.

AB has been pushing the LS product really bigtime in SD this summer
and I don't see how they don't ride the wave right thru football season.

My guess is that Jimmy's doing nothing in October. I think that he just decided to take the month off when the west coast venues cancelled these dates. He may do a surprise appearance at a bar or an island somewhere if he's traveling.....but I really don't anticipate any big announcement of any concerts during that month.

OK, Deano, maybe I missed something here. You're saying that Seattle Key Arena, MGM Grand and all the other California venues decided to cancel Jimmy's shows all at once? And Jimmy just shrugs and walks away from October. Wow--I must have been sleeping at the wheel on this one.

I don't know for a fact that venues cancelled shows.....thats why I stated it was "my guess" and that "I think" thats what happened. Nobody knows and the story anyone presents at this point is nothing but speculation.

Furthermore, I doubt that the Key Arena cancelled and I have questions about San Diego. However, I do know its been a very perilous year for the MGM. At the time that these tentative dates were removed from the schedule, they were in danger of losing billions of dollars they had put into the City Center project. The banks financing this project were scrutinizing everything they did. Money was so tight that hourly jobs were eliminated....so I'm sure the financial bloodbath they took on the May show was not something MGM management wanted to repeat in October.

Even if the other two venues wanted to continue with their booking, I think Jimmy and his management company just decided it wasn't worth it to bring the whole tour out west for only one or two shows in the fall.

However, I do think its been proven now that these shows were not cancelled to do a big show at Landshark Stadium. Even if a show was announced tomorrow, there is not near enough time to sell out a high percentage of a 60,000+ seat venue. I think you'd need a minimum of 3 months to effectively do this and likely closer to 6 months (which I think you will see when this event does take place).

Now, do I think Jimmy may attend a Dolphins game or two during October? He may decide to do so and I hope people don't complain at that point as he shouldn't be under "house arrest" for the month. Jimmy likes making music for money and I'm pretty confident that he'd rather do that in October. However, since he'll be on vacation, he's free to enjoy himself and that includes visiting with friends (Stephen Ross) or watching an NFL game.

Well Deano, all things considered, I think your MGM financial scenario might be looking like the most rational solution to this mystery. The LandShark Stadium deal sure doesn't seem to be amounting to much in terms of events involving Buffett. It's just the weirdest damn thing I've ever seen...especially coming from Jimmy. I just really wish he'd handled it better, that's all. A lot of fans are still stewing on this one... so we'll see what next October brings.

Oh God lets not start this up again, that first go round already sent a bunch of people off the board, some who haven't yet returned. Didn't Jimmy's manager or someone call Piratenurse or somebody and offer and explanation/aplogy?

I do not think Michelle really got a straight answer...they did say they screwed up and should not have posted information all over the web and global whatever.

They still messed with a great deal of people and I'm not just talking concert goers. Hotels, dining, souviners.... The room night sales alone for Vegas could have been anywhere between 15-30,000 room nights. Sure Vegas will fill them, and may be not. The Economy is turning around a bit, but we all are still feeling the effects.

As for starting this again...it was TraderJoe that made the first move; and all he did was ask a question...things just snowball from there

They didn't. At least the Seattle Arena didn't. I called and asked them
about it and was informed that it was Jimmy's camp that did the cancellation thing.

Wouldn't make sense for a venue that just lost it's primary attendance draw to cancel something that would put any money in it's pockets.

I heard he'd be doing several accoustic shows at The Angle Inn in Walford, IA during the whole month of October.
