any you guys ever been to staniel cay? The wife and I are thnking of going next year. Do you have any suggestions? Where should we stay?

We stayed on Great Exuma and went to Staniel Cay Yacht Club. It was REALLY fun!!

I don't know where to stay on Staniel Cay, though.

I sailed the Exumas and dove off Staniel Cay, but we stayed on the boat so I'm not much help either....sorry.

I love love love Staniel. There are some cottage you can rent right there at the yacht club. BEAUTIFUL. Be sure to snorkel in the Thunderball Grotto. Visit Happy People Beach....Very low key island....not alot to do BUT BEAUTIFUL

Back in 2000 I sailed down the Exuma islands with my friends Alan and Becky on Alans sailboat. We landed up in Staniel and stayed at the yacht club where we met Dave Hocher.. who is now the owner of Staniel Cay Yacht club and a good friend! They have a bunch of cottages there now and put a pool in a few years back. Not that you need a pool with the gorgeous water right there!! Swim with the rays, nurse sharks.. go snorkle thunderball grotto (yes.. where the james bond movie was filmed!!). Hang out at Thunder Ball on island.. a neat club on top of this raise that looks over the wash where the ocean and calm side meet. Cool spot! I think the 'new' thunderball is open however.. been under construction a few years!

Staniel is quiet.. peaceful.. but its amazing. Basically my favorite place on earth! You walk down one of the few streets into 'town' to hit the blue or pink store (theres only 3 small stores!). People invite you into thier homes for home made cevechi (OMG.. out of this world!!), invite you to go fishing, talk or kick back a few at peace and plenty! There is a landing strip here which makes it pretty unique! There are always flights in and out and a skip down to George Town is easy and fairly inexpensive! I hightly suggest going.

With a cottage rental you get to use one of their whaler's .. 13' motor boat basically! If you dont know how to drive one, they'll show you! Pack a lunch and go find a private beach which are easy to find in the area. Or go and check out the swimming pigs.. just bring them some scraps from the kitchen!

oh ya!! do you dive?! they just opened a dive shop! I've only snorkled the area but can only imagine!
so give Carol a call at Staniel and she can hook you up with a brochure and tons of info!
Its quiet, peaceful and I can not wait till my next visit!
