That was in 2008, and you all know who you m*f*rs are! :P :P :P

I don't know! Don't Chu-Know? Guess we should let the past be the past. :) :)

As you know I do sit down sometimes when people ask me to. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] And then again, sometimes I move if not comfortable or find another way to enjoy sitting and chair dancing and chilling for a while...until I just can't stand it and MUST get up to dance/wiggle.

But last year at Jones Beach I had never, ever, before, conversed with anyone as nasty and rotten as those that SAT BEHIND us that night!

I saw Mac tap him but couldn't hear the mistake because it was too loud where I was sitting, BUT about 2-3 songs in he starts introducing "5 O'clock Somewhere" out of sequence and again Mac had to correct him. I'm pretty sure there are large setlists on the stage in front of each musician...as well as on his teleprompter....
Don't mean to nitpick just something I noticed.

This was our second year at JB and we weren't disappointed! The set lists have been posted for months so we knew what to expect. Got to lot 5 before 11 so we had a great spot (or three) and enjoyed the people, the music and the games. Parrottheads are great people and we got some much needed help anchoring the canopy so it wouldn't blow away. The only bummer was this incredibly drunk woman sitting next to me who vomited during Volcano into a paper cup. Security took her out, she was back during the next song and never cleaned up. I spent five numbers trying to get someone to clean it. The security guard told me that I have to expect these things at a concert. I used follow the Grateful Dead around and don't rememer anyone vomiting in their seat. But we still loved it.

Last year we got VIP wristbands too and experienced the same rudeness. We couldn't see the stage well so went to our seats which turned out to be awesome. We stood for the entire show as did everyone around us.

See you all next year - I hope!

If we'd had seats we would have loved to have escaped but, as I said, our evening was not as promised by the person who set it up. Anyway, now I can say I've been there, it is quite a beautiful spot and if we'd spent the day in Lot 5 instead of driving there it would have been a better day all around. :D

I agree Jerry it was awesome. I met Jimmy in Montauk this summer it was the best. Hes a great guy. Im from the North shore of Central Suffolk theres no crowd better than a LONG ISLAND BEACH CROWD. So I read there were a few idiots but out of 15,000 that happens anywhere. FINS UP TO LONG ISLAND!

ScarletB wrote:My friend Jill and I ended up with wristbands to get into VIP but nothing else (long story, we were mislead and we were NOT happy about it but whatever we tried to make the best of it) we never hooked up with the BN crowd and I'm SURE we would have had a much better time if we'd gotten there early enough to do so.

However, the crowd in Lot 5 (we DID find that!) seemed fun and whoever that band was were fantastic. We thought it would all be OK until we actually got into the "VIP" area. You still had to pay $11 for a beer and buy whatever food you wanted and the people in there were the rudest fans I've ever met. They talked constantly during the show, barely even turned around to look at the stage and sometimes they were so loud we couldn't even hear what Jimmy was saying. One guy was so drunk he p*ssed in his beer cup and then threw it into the water while his wife hurled f-bombs at us because we were in front of them Thank God security threw them out.
Needless to say neither of us was impressed with the whole experience and it doesn't surprise me that no one in the actual amphitheatre "got it" either.

The rest of the parking lots that we saw were almost completely void of activity. I think this is one case where you have to bring your own good time (get there early enough to hook up with BN)
While the venue was beautiful ,the crowd made us pretty certain we wouldn't be in a hurry to make that long trip again unless we can be there all day with you guys. I have never seen so many rude people in my life - in this case VIP meant Very IGNORANT People. I can't for the life of me figure out why you'd want to come to a place to buy overpriced beers and then not even pay any attention to the music! We left during "Surfin in a Hurricane" because it had started to rain and we'd had enough. If anyone EVER told me I'd leave a Buffett concert before the end I'd have told them they were crazy.
You should spent more time in lot 5!!, lotsa of fun over there and the band was probably Barometer Soup who were playing about 4-5 rows out from the theater entrance. I know what you are talking about with the VIP tent, I have been in there a few times and generally those people are mostly not Buffett fans, just people who got tics to the show with VIP access and spend the entire show BSing and hanging out generally not paying any attention to the show. Last year I had VIP access and decided at the intermission that I wanted a beer only to find out thats when they stop serving!!

I'll take Jones Beach over Camden.

1 Not worried about getting mugged
2 Not parking at a warehouse if you get there after 2 pm
3 Smells better
4 Less drunk jackoffs
5 Easy to exit.
6 Not being faced down by locals selling bad shirts. You can get that with the legit crap inside.

Overall, Jones Beach is less stressfull for me. Well, the Belt Parkway is the only exception to this. Those drivers create some colorful fatal accidents.

Rasppy and I sat under the upper tier, so there was a wall behind us. No one to scream sit down. Plus what rain?

The seats are tight, so it's kind of hard to move standing when the white man's overbite dance is on all sides of you. I usually get up and do the moog dance for a few songs. I don't do that as much as I did 18 years ago. If someone is standing in front of me, I just say to myself they are having a good time. No big deal. I either stand or just sit back.

You are confirming something that I suspected, which is that Jimmy's mike wasn't live when he came in early on Weather. Since I was sitting dead center, two rows from the stage, I was able to hear Jimmy singing directly, and not through the sound system.

For the record folks, my comments regarding Jimmy's apparent "elder problems" is not a criticism of him directly; I give him a great deal of credit keeping up the pace that he does. He's amazing, really.

It's just that if like I, you have been to thirty+ years of his shows (my first was sometime around my 17th birthday, and I'm now 48) - effectively all of his professional career - it is extremely sad to see him finally losing his faculties. It is precisely because I am so enamoured of the man, the talent and the career, that it is becoming painful to see him now.

I don't expect you all to understand, and I expect many of you will simply take the "more tickets for me" point of view to my comments, well so be it...I've had my say.

I get what you are saying. Funny how I've heard a number of people (online and in person) hold on to that whole "if I ever need a teleprompter....." comment. Big deal. Now, if he starts lipsynching 100% of the songs, I may reconsider buying tickets.

Personally, I think the longer that you have seen Jimmy perform, the stronger the desire to remember him as he was, when he was young, vital and kicking ass onstage. By comparison to his 1994 Fruitcakes tour (some fifteen years ago), the show I saw Wednesday night was a homogenized, Vegas-style parody. We're sorta getting the "fat Elvis" version of Jimmy Buffett, if you know what I mean.

Look, if Jimmy is delivering the show you want to see, I'm totally cool with that.

However, the way I see it, somewhere in the past ten years, that show has disappeared into history.

As far as Jimmy's mike on Weather...it was on, just not at the level it normally is when he's singing. Just listen to the recording of the song in the concert trading thread...you can clearly hear Jimmy singing the first line. By the way, I was pretty close to the front too and I didn't see Mac tap him on the shoulder during Weather, he just let Jimmy go. It was on the intro to Summerzcool that Mac corrected Jimmy.

As for Jimmy losing his "faculties," who isn't? I certainly am not as sharp at 43 as I was at 23 and won't be as sharp at 63 as I am now. However, I don't care how old you are, there are none of us here who can do what Jimmy does. We all know the words to all the songs, but you stand up in front of 15,000 people and try to sing them perfectly each time. Sure he gets paid big bucks to do it, but everybody, no matter how rich or famous, makes a mistake sometime. Jimmy's job is to deliver us from our everyday lives, to drag us out of middle class America and plant our asses in Margaritaville for a few hours. Being a parrothead isn't just about the two hours you spend listening to Jimmy sing, it's about the outlook on life you choose to undertake, the friends you make while doing it, and the ability to keep the prospect of a warm, sunny beach in the forefront of your mind. As long as Jimmy wants to keep doing what he's doing, I'll be there to support him. Jimmy has always been a man on a mission, and on Wednesday night, it was mission accomplished.

I have to agree with islandmon. I have seen Jimmy many places and I like Jones Beach the best. The only show that topped Jones Beach for me was the grand opening of the Mohegan Sun Margaritaville ( which is not a fair comparison to any venue due to it being a smaller private event) I think for me this years show was the one I enjoyed the most at the beach besides my first Buffett concert at the beach. As far as I am concerned Jimmy and the band made my day. Thanks to Jimmy and the Coral Reefers. I hope to see them next year again at the Beach

I understand what you are trying to say, basically that he isnt the same now as he was 30 years ago. Now, I am only 33 years old, and have been going to concerts for the past 8-10 years. While they may not as good as 30 years ago, they are great to me, and seemingly to 99% of the crowd that is there.

If you reason for not going to see Jimmy anyway, is because he started introducing Five O'Clock Somewhere, the song before he was supposed to play it, I have to say that is a very nitpicking reason not to go to see Jimmy anymore. And especially nitpicky when you are talking about someone 'losing thier faculties". The guy made a mistake, big freakin deal
