conched wrote:About sharing a playlist on itunes: You can make an imix and have it published at itunes, but it has to be available in the itunes store. I think all of Jimmy's songs are available. So, it sounds like this could be done. :)

You can share your playlists with others by publishing them to the iTunes Store. Published playlists are called "iMixes."

iMixes include 30-second previews of songs available in the iTunes Store. Songs that aren't available in the iTunes Store don't appear in iMixes.

To publish your iMix:
Select the playlist you want to publish as an iMix and choose File > Create an iMix.

Enter the requested information about your playlist and click Publish.

To update a published iMix, click the arrow next to the playlist. (Changes you make to a published iMix aren't updated updated automatically on the iTunes Store.)
We want to share the JB original play list. I tried to follow Conched's Imix instructions but according to ITunes, mixes are limited to 100 songs. I can't figure out how to copy and paste the list from my ITunes library to this thread. If anyone wants the list, go to BMI.com and search "Buffett Jimmy" under "songwriter/composer". Have phun!

If someone does manage to get the list into an iPod playlist, it is pretty easy to get that list out of iTunes. Right-click on the playlist in the left-hand navigation area and choose Export... It defaults to a text file (that is tab delimited). Using Excel (or likely your favorite spreadsheet program), open the file. It should import it into columns of all of the song information, with a row for each song. Either the original exported text file or something massaged and simplified a bit in Excel could easily be shared with other BNers.

Thanks for the suggestion. I created the list using a table with Office Document.

I'll see what happens. :)

Still working on gettting all those songs into a Buffett Written playlist. I think I have them all in my itunes.

I did have a hand-sized transistor radio, back in 1961....and fitted it with stereo earplugs.... so much for innovation.
Snowparrot, it's nice just using itunes on your computer if you have enough space to import your Buffett cds into itunes. It's really easy and it puts all the songs you might want to find all in one place...and you don't even need an ipod to do that.

You can make all kinds of playlists, and shuffle songs, and search by artist, album, etc.

All good fun!!! :) :)

I rarely use my ipods anymore since I have bad ears and need to pay attention while walking, etc. I take my ipods with me and use them in my car instead of storing all my songs on the harddrive in my Jeep.

Great job Conched! You found 20+ songs that the BMI list missed. I have managed to organize 230 of the songs onto our IPod. Plus they are on our ITunes software that plays through our house stereo. Now Cat and I won't be confused about what's original or a cover again. Glad to get this challenge completed.

How about three lists?

Songs by Jimmy Buffett.

Songs by Jimmy Buffett and other songwriters.

Songs Jimmy Buffett covered (regardless of whether or not they were ever previously released or released after he released his version - songs he did not write).

Conched,

Quick question which version of "In the Shelter" are you placing on your list, the original from 1970 the second version from 1977 or third version from 2003?

I used ITS from CILCIA, although there was no reason to. I also used The Captain and the Kid from Havana Daydreamin' instead of Down to Earth.

For most of the other songs, I used the original album they came out on.

This was a time consuming project. It took me a long time. I had to go through the list I made and then had to sort by Artist/Buffett and then had to right click and save to my playlist. Is there an easier way to generate an itunes playlist?

The only song I don't have that Jimmy wrote is the song that Tone Loc did on Fern Gully!

Did you keep a list of those that were not at BMI? Something tells me those might be mistakes then.

After printing out your list, I compared it with the BMI list. I noted the songs from your list that weren't on the BMI list and then went to the BN song resourses area to check to see who the composer was. They were all composed/co-written by Jimmy. I can't say I checked them all but the ones I did were accurate. Thank you again for putting the list together.
