How to build a list of JB's Originals?

Cat and I were listening to the Jone's Beach show on RM the other night. She asked me if there was any way I could compile a list of just Jimmy's songs from our ITunes Buffett list (488 songs). That sounded challenging, no cover songs at all, just the ones he has written or co-written. I looked in the resources area of BN and there is a list of cover songs, but no list of just originals. Any advice from our fellow BN'ers on where we might find a such a list?

I'd look at the boxed set in the booklet, I think that has who wrote all the songs...it's not complete-but a place to start

It would be a bit of a chore, but each song in the database has the writer listed. You could go down each song on the list that is recorded commercially and pick just the ones that list Jimmy as a writer.

I don't think there would be any way to organize your itunes, except to check off each of those songs in your list, to make a playlist.

Is it possible for someone to share their itunes playlist with someone else?

This sounds like a task for a retired person. :) :)

(I'll wait and see if someone has already done this tho. My itunes had 545 Buffett songs. I guess that's because I also put the live CDs on my computer.)

I'll bet gingerbreadman could take his database and produce the list you want.

This list: http://www.buffettnews.com/resources/songs/?cid=0 is all songs Jimmy has performed.

This list: http://www.buffettnews.com/resources/so ... =listcover is all COVER songs Jimmy has performed.

The first list has exactly 600 songs on it right now.
The second list has 180.

The other 420, I would assume are JB's doing.
That's the best I have for ya!

You can also go to BMI music and search for songwriter and find all the songs Jimmy has written:

There are 11 pages and you have titles like whore house...so that doesn't work either.

Here is an example of what you'll find:
Buffett titles
BMI Work #
1. ABANDONED ON TUESDAY 2571
2. ABC COLLEGE FOOTBALL-BG CUES 0
3. AFRICAN FRIEND 9116
4. ALTERED BOY 5755678
5. AUTOUR DU ROCHER 5755688
6. BABY S GONE SHOPPING 73853
7. BALLAD OF SKIP WILEY 2077522
8. BANANA WIND 3637473

About sharing a playlist on itunes: You can make an imix and have it published at itunes, but it has to be available in the itunes store. I think all of Jimmy's songs are available. So, it sounds like this could be done. :)

You can share your playlists with others by publishing them to the iTunes Store. Published playlists are called "iMixes."

iMixes include 30-second previews of songs available in the iTunes Store. Songs that aren't available in the iTunes Store don't appear in iMixes.

To publish your iMix:
Select the playlist you want to publish as an iMix and choose File > Create an iMix.

Enter the requested information about your playlist and click Publish.

To update a published iMix, click the arrow next to the playlist. (Changes you make to a published iMix aren't updated updated automatically on the iTunes Store.)

Awww, heck, I couldn't wait. You can start putting your little check marks in your itunes to make a playlist.

(Let me know of any errors! I already think An Attitude of Gratitude is incorrect in the database here. I don't think Jimmy wrote that one. My book Thanks and Giving has a page with that song printed in it and it says it is written by Bruce Hart and composed by Christopher Cerf)

(Cumberland High Dilemma in the database should be High Cumberland Dilemma)

I don't think "License to Chill" is available at Itunes....

There also might be a way when you import a CD into iTunes, along with giving you the Track Name, Artist, Album, etc., it might give you the composer as well. If it does, on the Buffett playlist, right click the bar with Name, Artist, Album, etc. and check Composer. Then just highlight all of the songs written by Buffett and make a new playlist out of them.

There are other albums not availabe at the itunes store also, so using imix would not work for sharing the complete playlist of songs written by Jimmy. :)

Thank you Conched! I didn't think of going to the BMI database. I started by going through the BN database, but that was very cumbersome. Also, using the search the way you describe it in ITunes works great and with only a few errors. I'll get this play list put together for Cat before the end of the weekend. Thank you for your assistance!

I only took an hour and a half but thanks to Conched and BMI I was able to put together a play list of 200 Jimmy Buffett originals. I was missing 45 songs. Now I am on a mission to try to find them also. Update later.....

I haven't yet got one of those ipod thingies; heck, I never even had a walkman.
I did have a hand-sized transistor radio, back in 1961....and fitted it with stereo earplugs.... so much for innovation.
Great list, pholks! I was thinking we could also take the list of all songs Jimmy has recorded, subtact the covers, and voilà!

But to get off the topic, I noticed this burning question in Catsway's sig line:[quote]How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?quote]

It goes like this:
Two people are better than one for this, but one can do it.
Pull the sheet out square, and take hold of the corners, where the seam ends.
Fold the sheet down the middle.
Take one corner, inside out. Take the next one, and fold it over the first, right side out. Your partner does the other two corners simultaneously, but make sure you are both going the same way. Or do it yourself; the first corners aren't going to get away.
Now you have an odd, shorter side piece that runs between the corners. Smooth it out as flat as possible, toward the main centre fold and fold legthwise, then however you like.
It will never be as small and flat as it was in the package, but at least it will not be in a messy ball.
Try it

Thank you Snowparrot! This is a bonus day, two questions answered in the same thread!

I'm done with the list of JB originals. 219 total. There are only about 26 songs from the BMI list that I can't find on ITunes. We'll be listening to the list on the Tiki Hut tonight!
