St. Barths. An invitation.

Post by RickyB »

Hi everyone. My name is Rick. I have posted on these boards a few times and lurk everyday. My girlfriend and I are planning on going to St. Barths 11/5-11/9. We rented a 2 bedroom villa which I just paid for. Well, my friend and his wife from Florida now tell me they MAY not be able to make the trip with us. I should hopefully know by Monday or Tuesday of next week. Anyway, a one bedroom villa will probably wind up costing us more than the 2 bedroom villa split 2 ways. Does anyone on the boards feel like making 2 new friends and planned on maybe going to St. Barths? We are 48 and 49 respectively. I wont tell you whos older. She may kill me. We are both non smokers. I feel like I'm writing an eharmony ad. Anyway, PM me if you know how to do that, and I'll keep checking back. Oh yeah, neither of us are serial killers. Just parrott heads looking for a good time in the tropics with some new found friends.

We are flying in on the 5th and departing on the 9th. Right now we are staying at the AMS. Whatever that means. And by the way, not to be mean everyone, but when I say invitation, I'm not footing the bill. Wish I could though. If I win the 352 million dollar mega million tonight, your ALL invited. ON ME.

It's all Carol's doing, that villa was just all re-done. The price is doubling next year.

As long as I'm not in New Jersey in November, I'm having a great time.

Weather they go or not, we are going. Would just be nice if someone could use the extra bedroom. And split expenses.
A sunset toast sounds fantastic. Especially in that kind of setting. Amazing. A lot to be thankful for.
What are the chances of anyone going being able to speak French? I'm not going to leave your side all week.

Nice job making friends with the folks at sbhonline, I believe that was you with the carryon questions? Since I'm getting there the day before I'm just going to say the heck with it and check a bag. I don't think Jet Blue will lose it on the way to SXM. Famous last words

You can get by with English and a friendly face, but it wouldn't hurt to brush up on a few French phrases. Often it helps to try French first, before you ask if they speak English. One way to casually greet someone in SBH is to say, "Ca vas?" [sah-VAH], which is a contraction that means, "What's up?"

I really hope you enjoy your trip, especially Lorient [lorrie-AWN]. Really the nicest beach in SBH. We went for the celebration in '99 and had the best time of our lives, despite many frustrating inconveniences (broken planes, poor understanding of Customs and Immigration procedures, weather, lost reservations, more broken planes).
Just keep singing, "No Plane on Sunday"

MacPhins hubby Tagalong (Dave) can speak some. I'm told that a friendly "Bonjour" or "Bon soir" goes a long way. I have sporadically been trying to increase my phrase catalog, I have to buckle down - only a little over 2 months to go! High school French was a LONG time ago!

I took French in high school. And I have started to brush up on it. Just as hard now as it was 30 years ago. I'm planning on taking the ferry from St. Maarten over. Has anyone done this? I HATE planes, especially small planes. I am not a good flyer. I procrastinated for 3 days to even go because of this. Airfare started at around 320.00 the first day. By the time I got enough nerve to book it, it was over 500.00.

Not to make you nervous but I've seen it referred to as the "vomit comet" more than once. Apparently it can be a rocky ride more often than not. I don't enjoy flying either and the videos of a St Barts landing almost made me say "nuh uh" but I'm going to have a few drinks at SXM before I board! :D
Hopefully there will be smooth seas the days you go back and forth.

Scarlet, we have to get to Grand Case so that is the reason for us using carry-on. Should be interesting. And you are right about my posting.
