Can't help you with the song...I'd like to see the chords for it myself. However, I've often thought that BN should provide us guitar pickers with a spot where we can post the tabs and chords for Jimmy's songs, kind of like the Great Chords Compilation used to be on Church of Buffett. There are several chords sites out there that have Buffett songs in them, but it would seem to me, if BN wanted to be THE place for Jimmy Buffett info, there would be some way of being able to play all of the songs.

I agree...maybe this thread can also serve as purpose to petition for a "Musician's Corner" section in the forum for those that are interested in musical instruments and tablature/chords. They do have one on that "other" Buffett forum.
Here ya go, although no sure how accurate it is. Give it a shot with and without the capo positioning.

In the roll of cosmic dice you win one hard and lose it twice before you know.
Love is fine until you taste this melancholy bouillabaise called letting go.

Verse 3
He moved on up to old bean townn and summered on the Vineyard sounds to pass

Island hopping, crab cay bound, tending bar he thinks he's found a better way.
Now we're back where we belong without a clue and still without a masterplan
Incident or accident it all depends on if your meant to understand.

Works for me. Seems like there's a few of us guitar players around here.
I'll give this a try, after I get around to getting a capo.
Shucks....another reason to go to the music store!!!!!

That has always been a great site, but, unfortunately, it's not being updated anymore. We need a place HERE, at Buffett News, where we can keep adding songs as our musical minds figure them out. Maybe, with enough connections and arm bending, we can get a couple of Coral Reefers (current or past) to stop by and give us some tips.rich_big wrote:I refer to this page

Re: Anyone got Lage Nom Ai tab/chord progressions???
I couldn't really make out all of what Jimmy was saying on the "What does Jimmy think about the GCC" mp3, but I have noticed a lot of bizarre chords in tab. I saw a coppy of Acoustic Guitar in my instructor's studio with Margaritaville in it. Asked to borrow it, and there were at least 8 or 9 chords listed. I've played along with one version that only had 4 or 5 of the basic open chords everyone learns first, and it sounded great. No wonder people don't want to stick with it. Kid comes in, wants to play his favorite songs but can't because the chords are so bizarre. (much less alternate tunings) I do like the idea of having a cersion of that here though. This is about the only JB site I visit.

First of all, here's another vote for BN to have a musicians corner. I've always thought that would be cool. Heck, we could even video a few tutorials on how we play Jimmy's music. That's on a guitar site that I belong to and it works very well. I've picked up a few tips and tricks that have helped me a lot in playing some songs.
Second.....HD18JBGuy.....that version works well and is pretty simple to play.
Last but not least......Staredge.... don't be intimidated by lots of chords that you aren't sure about. Most songs can be simplified with a little work. For instance, Margaritaville can be played simply with D-A-G and an A7. You can also include a Dsus2 and an Asus2 ( I think thats the correct name for it ) for some added flavor. All ya gotta do is add or subtract a finger from the basic open position chord shape.
Lets be honest here, most of Jimmy's music is pretty simple to play....not all of it...but a good bit. Ya really don't have to be a guitar hero to have fun playing around with his stuff.
Oh, one more thing.... frozen bird mentioned about the possibility of some of the reefers giving some pointers......I was lucky enough to be in front for the Pittsburgh show this year and I noticed that Tina plays barre chords almost exclusively. For some reason, that really surprised me.

Yep, I agree. There are a lot variations of simple chords Jimmy uses in his songs, mostly of the A and D open chords. If you aren't comfortable learning them, you can always stick to the basics and get a nice song, but by simply adding or subtracting a single string to or from a simple open chord, you can sound like you are playing something more complex than what you are. Heck, Jimmy has been doing it for years. He will be the first to tell you that his guitar skills are mediocre at best, but it works and that is the magic of it all. Jimmy rarely plays much past the fifth fret, but then again neither do most country music players either, which has a lot of influence on Jimmy's music.

I'm not so much intimidated by them as just too lazy to deal with them, when the songs can be played more simply. (especially having heard Jimmy talk about not being a great guitar player) Part of it is that I'm just looking for something to learn quickly, to play along with. Not that interested in working that hard to learn them. I save the hard work for surf songs.
