Any Vonage customers?

Post by OceanCityGirl »

I have had Vonage phone service for over 5 years and have been happy. On their website today is a notice about the change in your contract. I'm no lawyer but I think it doesn't sound good. There is enough to be concerned that I will probably switch providers right away. If you haven't read it yet check it out. If you have what do you think?

I don't know what change you are speaking of with Vonage, but if you are considering changing, Skype is a lot less expensive and pretty darn good.

The problem is we need to fax alot for work. I really don't need a landline at all except for this. If I could find a cheaper alt. to fax problem I would do that.

Can you scan your faxes and e-mail the docs as a pdf?

Skype has a fax app. Not sure the costs on that. After I downloaded it, I found out my scanner is dead. If you have a scanner, efax I hear is pretty good. Our land line was removed 5 years ago. Not receiving a bill from Verizon is great.

My scanner is old so I'm not real familiar with newer ones. We have to fax 25-50 page documents once or twice a day. Sometimes it is much more. With my current scanner it takes quite some time to do that. We typically send more faxes then we receive but at times we have to receive tech booklets for hvac equipment that can be quite long. On the receiving end getting them as a pdf would be better because we could selectively print what we want. I would be very interested in skyp though since I'm already using the internet for my phone service. Vonage runs me 32. per month after all taxes for unlimited everything. What concerns me about the change in terms is that it mentions that they can change your rate and the only notice you would be given is on the web site. They can also change your plan the same way. Mostly the change in service refers to how they change things with little notice, yo are obligated to it and they can bill the account you are using for any amount even after you cancel the service. So if you they change your terms, you have a disagreement with them billing and you cancel the service they can continue to hit your bank account for the money while you try to dispute it. Right now everybody is month to month but it sounds like they are trying to increase the time you need to stay with them upon cancellation. Once they get their money you would have no luck in a billing dispute. I have loved vonage. A flat rate and good service.
