17 yrs later did anyone really here her???

Post by thebeachbumm33 »

Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been camping and hiking all her life. When she was 9 she started the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO), a small group of children committed to learning and teaching other kids about environmental issues. They were successful in many projects before 1992, when they raised enough money to go to the UN's Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

I would have to say NO.

Thanks for bringing that up though.
It's an amazing speech for a youngster.

Too bad she can't jump into a time machine and go back 100-150 years and see the crimes against humanity and nature and get a little perspective on the whole issue. Even in the 70's I remember on a clear day the sky was grey, the stream near our house was orange, PCB's bubbled out of the ground across the street from the Westinghouse plant. Prosperity and pollution go hand in hand. Things are much better today, developed nations are more responsible and are good citizens, unfortunately third world countries like China and India have absorbed the manufacturing with "hazardous materials" and are much less responsible with their disposal.

Most of the staving people are not starving because of anything the civilized world has done to them, they are victims of their own government oppressing them. The millions starving in North Korea were not caused by the civilized world nor are people in Haiti eating dirt because of people of means. The African continent is not in turmoil today because of Europe or North America (this one can be debated because of the european colonization during the 1700's through 1950) Same with South america. Well actually one might blame the environmentalists for the starving in Brazil because of their assistance in "helping" Brazil prevent the clearing of land for farming. With the poverty as it is in South America, why is the beef that could be used to feed the people of Argentina being sold to the US? Why is so much produce shipped out of Mexico and Chile while their own people starve? Self loathing isn't going to solve the "problems" of the world. Exposing the root causes of the problems and addressing them will.
