I had the flu in August, they suspect it was H1N1, because everyone in our community has come down with it, 100s of cases a DAY in a county of 30,000. They were out of swabs to test for it, so the nurse said, just assume it is, and get plenty of rest and fluids. It was the easiest flu I ever had in my life. I had deadlines that week on our football program or it wouldn't have gotten done in time for the first home game, so I just worked through it. It lasted a week, a record for me. Not to say that some with compromised immune systems won't have a harder time with it.

I don't think I will get the flu shot, since I feel like my immune system is strong enough. And I am one that I always get the flu whether I get a flu shot or not. Got it for my mom, though! She has had sniffles ever since.

Love Story

I will seek and find you.

I shall take you to bed and have my way with you.

I will make you ache, shake & sweat until you moan & groan.

I will make you beg for mercy, beg for me to stop.

I will exhaust you to the point that you will be relieved when I'm finished with you.

And, when I am finished, you will be weak for days.

All my love,

The Flu

Now get your mind out of the gutter and go get your flu shot!

Well on Thursday this past week, I ran a flu shot clinic at school for the employees and their family members (including kids over 4). It was the biggest participation I ever had.

Now on to H1N1 shots......well.....whenever they are available......parents are already calling and asking if I'm going to give shots out to all the students.......sure (all by myself) just not November 4 - 9.......I'm in KW........ :D

So did MJM. He's sick with it right now. Had a 104 fever yesterday, but it's down today.
Now I'm just watching his lungs to be sure they don't show signs of pneumonia & I'll breath a sigh of relief.

Unfortunately, he shared it with 2 of his friends and their father before we knew he had it.
Hoping to keep the rest of the house free of it. Lot's of hand washing & wiping down surfaces going on around here.

This is milder than the seasonal flu, and we all got those shots.

Victoria's definitely seemed milder than the flu I know and love. She never even had a fever, but exhibited all the other symptoms. She complained highly of the body aches and the cough that felt like she was trying to expel razor blades.

I work at an urgent care type facility and they are telling us if we do not get the flu shot and we get sick we can't use ANY of our sick time. Which I think is complete bullsh*t. I finally broke and said I would get the shot, but now I am sick with strep or something so it will have to wait until I'm over this crap. :-?

I've never had the flu shot before and (knock on wood) never had the flu....I even worked 4 years in a dialysis clinic.

Seriously! :o What if you get sick with some other virus? Most docs aren't even having folks come in unless they are seriously down and then they want you to the ER....would they have to prove you have H1N1? What if you're allergic to eggs? You're right that's complete bull***t! :-?

All's I know is: if I DO get the flu, this time I'm NOT doing the laundry, ironing, cooking, cleaning, anything. Except drinking a lot of fluids, taking aspirin, sleeping on my favorite couch with a quilt.

From the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

Flu Vaccine and Egg Allergy

People with egg allergy could have a reaction when given the flu vaccine because the vaccine may contain some amount of egg protein. Fortunately, even in individuals with confirmed egg allergy, flu vaccines may be administered under certain conditions by experienced physicians. Most reactions to flu vaccines are not due to egg-allergy.

How common is egg allergy?
Food allergies are more common in children than in adults. The prevalence of egg allergy depends on age and history of allergic disease. It is estimated that egg allergy exists in 1.6 percent of children in the general population, but it is more common in children with other allergies.

Is there a test to determine egg allergy?
The diagnosis of egg allergy is made based upon both clinical history and either the skin p**** test or a blood test. As with any suspected food allergy, it is recommended that an allergist help confirm the test results.

Is there any way to administer the flu vaccine to a very high-risk patient who is allergic to egg?

When egg allergy is suspected, patients should be skin tested to the flu vaccine. If the test is positive, the severity of the reaction and the risk/benefits of administering the vaccine should be evaluated. If the flu vaccine is warranted, it can be administered in the office of an allergy specialist who can administer emergency treatment if necessary.

Is there an alternative flu prevention for high-risk people with egg allergy who are unable to take the flu vaccine?
Yes. A high-risk person with suspected egg allergy can use other flu medications within 24 hours of developing flu symptoms. The medication alleviates or prevents the progression of the flu.

The military is requiring all service members and civilians on base to get the H1N1 and Influenza vaccines.

I've gotten the flu shot twice (as a child & in basic training) in my life and both times had adverse reactions to the shots. No I'm not allergic to eggs, but both reactions made me turn bright red and massive swelling at the injection site. My one and only shot in the military had the same reaction after I pleaded with the nurse not to give me the shot and she gave it to me anyways.... tylenol & benadryl were my friends that day. From that mistake on, I have a permanent no influenza shot notice on my shot record.

As for the H1N1... I'm probably not going to get it. I'm not taking chances that my body will react again... and it is the live virus, which will get me sick within 12 hours.

I really can't remember the last time I had the flu... hopefully this year, knock on wood, I don't get sick.

no problems yet?

i was under the impression i was being a guinea pig today. i got my flu shot and the H1N1 Mist. i was the first one to get one at that office, and it was the first batch from that company.

i get the flu shot every year and have never had a problem with it. but this time i got a card with the batch and lot number that i got. i am supposed to carry it around with me "in case there is a problem" [smilie=shake.gif]
