Do I take a shot or not?

I have a chance to get a flu shot tomorrow at work. I am undecided on if I am going to do it or not. Part of the reason, this shot won't protect from the H1N1 flu. Those shots will be available to us in November. The other reason is the last time I got a flu shot was about 13 years ago and ended up down with the flu 3 times that year.

I'm curious how many pholks out there are going to get a flu shot this year.....

Here's my thinking: yes if you are around people, especially kids every day.
I'm NOT. Because the last three years I got a flu shot, and yes...you guessed it. I got the FRIGGIN' FLU !!!!!!! Before that, I hadn't even had as much as a cold for several years. You will probably never convince me there was no connection.

I'll take Victoria in to get one when the H1N1 is available. Because of Celiac Disease, her immune system becomes extremely compromised when she accidentally gets gluten. A few weeks ago she got glutened, and within a week she had a sinus infection she's still trying to clear.

I already got mine...the flu vac is a DEAD virus, you can't get THE FLU from it!!! The nasal spray thing is a LIVE virus...i will not go near that! :o

The CDC has been telling hospitals that the SEASON FLU (not H1N1 piggie flu) is going to be BAD this year....it's a personal choice but i always get mine! The one year that they ran out and i did not get one i was SICK AS HELL for 10 days!

I'm undecided. So many folks I know that have gotten flu shots have gotten incredibly sick, both from the shot as well as getting a strain of flu that the shot doesn't cover (or one that has mutated). I could never understand why teachers were never included with the high risk groups for getting shots (health care workers, elderly etc). I have a feeling the H1N1 vaccines are going to be hard to come by for the average Joe... :-?

I get one every year. I got the flu a few years ago. Haven't had it since I started getting the shot (knock on wood)

There's been word if the schools get the H1N1 vaccine, they'll get enough for us teachers to get it as well....

As soon as I posted this, we got an email saying they need to postpone the shots for 3 weeks and to go somewhere else to get it.

Maybe it was a sign..... Lol

here is info that we were emailed from the CDC about the H1N1 vaccine you have to get the seasonal flu vaccine first:

I will get the seasonal flu shot as I am one of those that really really need to.
However since I have already gone thru the swine flu thing back in the 70's and
had the shot for it then I have been told by my doctor that I will not need to get
that vaccine.

Janice: I'm sure they've improved the vaccine since 1989, but that was the last time I took one ... and I got so sick I thought I was going to die. Spent two weeks with fever, chills, aches and a headache that got so bad I WANTED to die.

Mr. Mojito takes one every year and hasn't had any problem ... but I'll never take another one.

I've been in the healthcare industry for a few years....I have gotten a flu shot and gotten the flu. I have also not gotten a shot and not contracted the flu. If you talk to nurses and doctors they are split on the issue.

I am still thinking about it

Like Kat said there are strains that mutate and end up not being covered but...i swear by it. It is a personal choice! But being in a job like mine where i work right in the heart of the ER i will take all the protection i can get!
