Hey, Bob, thanks for that. Do you have the link to that thread handy? I had forgotten about that one. Love it. All too fun! Especially Robert Greenidge!
It's been discussed a few times ... the last time about one year ago in this thread ......
This song was in the movie I just watched made in 1980 and is sorta about being on the road. The soundtrack for the movie is VERY good. MORE later...
SURVIVE
Jimmy’s Notes: There are some days on the road when you have the blues and nothing will get rid of them. You just have to ride it out like a bad cold or a storm, and things will eventually get better. This song came out of one of those spells, and I did survive.
Lyrics:
I play the stereo loud
When I'm away from the maddening crowd
Smokin', jokin', clowns we all are
Sometimes I kinda get real ill
When I receive my monthly telephone bill
But you say it and I'll pay it
`Cause it helps me to
Chorus
Survive stay alive
'Til I see you again
Survive stay alive
Can't say where it ends
Clouds lift and there are mountains below
Been a while since I've seen any snow
Chillin' so thrillin' so good to be back
Feels nice to be home for a while
Let's sip champagne til we break into smiles
We'll go dancin' romancin'
`Cause your the reason I
Survived stayed alive
Through the thick and the thin
Survive stay alive
When will it all end
But my bags ain't unpacked
`Cause I've got to go back and play
But I know we'll both
Survive stay alive
Through the thick and the thin
Survive stay alive
Until it all ends
Survive stay alive
When will it all end
Survive stay alive
Till I see you again
Sorry, no direct video embeds on this one. Might want to sit back with a cocktail on this one, if you want to watch it all.
Jimmy's April 1984 TNN Nashville Now guest hosting can be found in the links below. As the website explains, the video made it's way through several VHS to Betamax and back iterations, so isn't the best quality. Nevertheless, it is still classic old Jimmy.
The movie I watched that had Survive on the soundtrack was Coast To Coast. What can I say? Dyan Cannon was kooky and Robert Blake pretty unique? It's one of those TRUCKER flicks, with CB-ing, hauling cattle and all. There are some shots of some great scenery around Kansas City and through Oklahoma, etc while they travel from Pittsuburgh to LA. It was probably all filmed in California. A short clip of SURVIVE fit well while Dyan was driving that big ole truck and trying to SURVIVE...but no video of Jimmy...just his song.
"Either way he'll get it in the end."
I'm easily entertained and this movie had its funny moments, but the redeeming quality is that the soundtrack is really good for 1980. Along with Survive, there are songs written for the movie by T. G. Sheppard and Tim Krekel, and other great songs with Rita Coolidge, Bonnie Raitt,
Track List:
Coast to Coast [Original Soundtrack]
Pickin' Up Strangers
Fool That I Am
Feels So Good to Win
Send Me Somebody to Love
Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancin')
I Can Tell by the Way You Dance
Once in a Lifetime
You're Only Lonely
Survive
Coast to Coast
Available on ebay now.
I just love this song and the scenery that someone put to the music is nice here:

(Is this the video from 1984 l-40PH?)
That is the video from 1984, although someone has clipped it to be just the Fogelberg interview. The source below has the entire show in 9 parts, this being just part of one of them.

Did y'all see this one in your 'travels'? I think it's kinda neat.
"This is a unique piece of video. Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes BEFORE an interview you hear on the radio? Here's Terry and Staci of Miami's KISS Country Radio, with Jimmy Buffett at his Shrimpboat Studios in Key West. This is video that was taken before the actually on-air interview began."
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

The last time I was in Key West I was not aware where Shrimpboat Sounds Studio was. I must at least go by there some day again.
Wondering if that was Jimmy or the interviewing playing on the piano. Wouldn't it be nice to actually see Jimmy sit at a piano and sing once? I think someone said he was on keyboards once during a show.
I have that Margaritaville throw.
Glad you posted that, Tiki B!
Well, I multi-tasked through watching FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH twice last night. I know this is a top rated HIGH SCHOOL MOVIE...like second best on the TOP list of "high school movies", but I just couldn't get into it again. I do so admire the relationship with Jeff Spicoli and Mr. Hand tho!
Gotta LOVE Spicoli!
Gonna go give it a watch again and play the soundtrack. I DON'T KNOW ...I DON'T KNOW. I remember enjoying seeing this the first couple of times back in the 90s.
The movie is what was typical for high schoolers in the 80s! And now too, really. Kinda timeless in many ways. A surfer, a pirate, nudity, sex, love, nice cars, pretty girls, ticket scalper!! ...what's not to like?!! What really cool is that Cameron Crowe spent a year at high school to write the book Fast Times...
See the trailer for FAST TIME AT RIDGEMONT HIGH:
