Garth Brooks is coming out of retirement.
The country superstar said Thursday at a news conference in Nashville that he will end his retirement with an extended engagement at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.
The move has been rumored in the music industry for weeks.
The 47-year-old retired in 2000 to spend more time with his three children. He's occasionally popped up in special appearances at awards shows and charity events, but has mostly stayed out of the limelight.

I thought what a waste of amazing talent that he 'retired'. But good for his kids.
I'm so glad.

I saw one of Garth’s shows at the Staples Center when he did 5 shows over 2 days or whatever it was. It was a benefit for firefighters in San Diego. I must say, he really puts on a show. I had high expectations, and was still blown away. I am glad to hear this news.
Also, the best looking poon at a concert I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot of concerts, was at the Garth Brooks show.

I have to say I missed seeing one of his big shows. He did come to little ole Victoria to do a show Keith Whitely was booked for when Keith died.
I did see Garth with Don McLean and Nanci Griffith at the little small Paramount Theater in Austin. Wow, what a memorable "Starry Starry Night."

I love me some Garth, and hope I'll get a chance to see him perform.

Saw him "fly" across Texas Stadium. The man sure knows how to put on a fun show.
We'll definitely go see him again.

Garth Brooks' new gig not your old Las Vegas
By CHRIS TALBOTT (AP) – 1 day ago
LAS VEGAS — Millions of fans wish they could've seen Garth Brooks where it all started at Willie's Saloon in Stillwater, Okla.
Come to Vegas and you'll get something like it. Forget the glitz, glam and pyrotechnics that typify your average Sin City show. Brooks is going to strip it down and take it back to the beginning.
The man, his guitar and the songs he loves.
"That's how it started in Willie's in '83, playing a show for tips," Brooks told The Associated Press on Thursday after announcing his residency at the Wynn Las Vegas resort's Encore theater. "You do your big arena show, then it's funny. You come back to that and it's come full circle."

Never got to see him in concert but I did meet him when he "tried out" for Padres in Arizona.
Could not have been a nicer guy.Good conversation and autographs for my kids.
I liked his music and only heard positives about his concerts.

Re: Garth Brooks Says He's Coming Out Of Retirement
LAS VEGAS — Garth Brooks' first song back: Merle Haggard's Mama Tried.
With that tune — a favorite of his father's, he said — Brooks, 47, officially ended a nine-year retirement and started what could be a five-year engagement at the Wynn Las Vegas Friday night.
Dressed casually in a black hoodie, jeans and a ball cap, Brooks took to a nearly bare stage, sharing stories, joking with the audience, even taking questions and requests. Accompanying himself on an acoustic guitar, he played all or parts of more than three dozen songs during a 95-minute set and 20-minute encore for a sold-out crowd of 1,500 at the casino resort's Encore showroom.
Brooks used his one-man show to trace his personal musical history, from his father's favorite singers like Haggard and George Jones, to the music that his older siblings and friends brought into his life, like James Taylor and Bob Seger. At one point, responding to a shout from the audience for a Jim Croce song, he launched into a five-song mini-set of Croce tunes ranging from I Got a Name to Rapid Roy (The Stock Car Boy). He also brought out his wife, Trisha Yearwood, and accompanied her on her 1993 hit, Walkaway Joe.
