Jimmy does private concert in Vegas in Oct.
Evidently Jimmy did do a concert in Vegas- in October. It was a private one for Budweiser at the Hard Rock last Thursday night. Now obviously this was probably a corporate concert arranged along with the cancelled MGM shows that he was obliged to do. I understand that. What I don't understand is why Jimmy continues to fawn over everything that has to do with his merchandising machine and seems to have a bit of a blind spot for the effects some of his decisions have on the lives of many of his fans.
Case in point is that of incredibly loyal Parrotheads Margaret and John of Yorkshire England who when Jimmy made his concert tour announcement on You Tube & Margaritaville immediately purchased nonrefundable airfare at lower prices. The West Coast Tour was of course then cancelled. Margaret & John came to Vegas anyway- joining up with other Parrotheads in similar situations. In their wanderings the two of them amazingly stumbled upon the private concert at the Hard Rock. With "great difficulty" they were able to get in. They also got some well-deserved great seats.
Margaret and John, after traveling half way across the world for the no-concert, were rewarded for their incredibly loyal efforts. Cheers to that. What maybe should have happened is that someone should have gotten word to Jimmy that there were "no-concert Parrotheads" in the audience and they should have been simply acknowledged and maybe even apologized to. Maybe that's too much to ask- I don't know. I just miss the old Jimmy Buffett... maybe he'll be back next year.

Here's some other quotes from Margaret & John...looking4OPH wrote:I'm curious to hear more about......TraderRick wrote:With "great difficulty" they were able to get in. They also got some well-deserved great seats.
"We were there tonight WITH JIMMY!! We managed to get into his private show at the Hard Rock Hotel with great difficulty (don't ask how)! It was a super show but he did not do an encore. He finished with Fins and that was it. Think he may have wanted to leave. We were probably the only few Parrot Heads in there. Think most of them in there were for the free entertainment and free Landshark. What a great night and we were so near the stage. This was worth coming to Las Vegas for.
...Grams we had no time to phone you as we missed the first half of the show and did not think we could sort of gate crash this party!
...Jimmy sang one of my favourite songs which was Who stole the Peanut Butter. I can't remember a lot of the songs he sang because I was so excited and in a trance. Still on this high. I do think that this private show was arranged to fit in with the two concerts at MGM as it was Budsweiser, Landshark, Kraft for their employees. No doubt he would not have been able to cancel this party but managed to cancel the shows at the MGM. Wonder why?"
Pretty interesting stuff.

I don't know what the break even for a concert like this is, but they obviously they felt that three concerts in Vegas would not sell out. They were probably right as the New York concert still has good tickets for sale. I thought the 1st one might come back but I guess when it's business it's all about the bucks. While like St Barts, London and Paris are about the heart and it does not matter what it costs him. Just my thoughts, he probably has no idea of the cost and organisation it takes to get us to a concert.

Re: Jimmy does private concert in Vegas in Oct.
Maybe Jimmy might look at doing just one October Vegas concert next year. Or even a smaller venue...one that's not so financially strapped. I'm sure they're looking at other possible options. If the West Coast fans feel that he's trying to meet them half way on this- all could very soon be forgotten and forgiven. Parrotheads hate feeling this conflicted.he came from london wrote:I don't know what the break even for a concert like this is, but they obviously they felt that three concerts in Vegas would not sell out. Thanks TraderRick for all your nice comments about us. We agree with everything that you have said about Jimmy. Just do think that he is more interested in his Landshark promotions etc than his actual true fans that have made him all this money!! This recession has hit nearly everyone but he will not probably feel it as much as his fans have. I am going to send you a pm letting you know how we managed to get into the show.TraderRick wrote:Maybe Jimmy might look at doing just one October Vegas concert next year. Re: Jimmy does private concert in Vegas in Oct.
Speaking as someone who had travel plans for the Vegas shows this year, what a slap in the face this is. He definitely could have sold out at least one show at MGM. I was in Vegas the week of 10/12 and the place was busy. I can’t stand the thought of a bunch of Kraft employees / non-parrotheads standing around not even listening to Jimmy, waiting for him to play the cheeseburger song.
Good times and riches and son of a bitches, I've seen more than I can recall

It's so glad to know others think along the same lines I do. Thanks Bob Roberts 1468 and Yorkshire Parrothead. TraderRick, while I do somewhat agree with you the Pacific Northwest hasn't had a show up here since Portland in 2005. That show drew people from California, Seattle and Victoria BC. I'm very confidant that Key Arena in Seattle would have been a sell out.

Yes some of them did not even know the Cheeseburger song and Jimmy had to say that he would look at the women to see who were singing the song and knew the words and invite them up to the stage to sing with him and Nadirah. Wow and then when they were on the stage he actually kissed them. Am I jealous!! You bet.Bob Roberts 1468 wrote:Speaking as someone who had travel plans for the Vegas shows this year, what a slap in the face this is. He definitely could have sold out at least one show at MGM. I know- we were at the Portland show.. at the tailgate as well. I was also at the White River concert on the Muckleshoot Reservation and the Tacoma Dome as well years ago. It's been a drought up here, I agree...that's why we've done Vegas for the last 8 years. It's been the only fairly consistent West Coast show. I think as Jimmy ages he's become much more concerned that his Parrothead "investment" is paying full dividends. Trust me he's got cost accountants continually running the numbers on all fronts and if the ratios aren't matching up he's just not doing it. The businessman in me understands that to a point- but the fan in me says he will lose ground fast if all this just solely becomes a numbers game. If that's the case then he should just call it and leave us with the great memories that we do have. It truly has been a phenomenal run.

Wow I was at the tailgate too - at that hotel (can't remember the name) a few block down the street from the Rose Arena or whatever it's called. While I do agree and understand regarding the concern of his investment paying full dividends I do disagree that he will loose ground fast if it becomes a numbers game. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Many West Coast fans-and I mean even his most fervent ones- are ticked off about what happened here. Jimmy will notice right off the bat that his new CD ("Buffet Hotel") will probably not move as well. Holiday sales on all things Buffett could very well be way down as well. No doubt partly due to the economy in general- but also due to a sense of let down here on the West side. We'll see. I can assure you those are the numbers that will speak to Bubba in a big way.

Whats up Rick, how is your weather?
I was at those NW shows too. I believe I even met you all at those. Vegas, pretty much every year since 96.
Not anymore.
This was like cancelling a date with a woman by saying your sick, going out with your friends and running into her that night.
I am so over this guy. I have spent way too much money on this corporate clown. I feel had.
I just don't get this. He has got some bad birds chirping in his ear. As far as the new album, I could give a rats azz.

I agree my friend. This saddens me to the core. I'm losing hope fast- as are many others. By the way...if you're in the CdA area the offer still holds...stop by and share some Don Julio or some Coronas. PM me for directions.FINSUPinIdaho wrote:Whats up Rick, how is your weather?
