I'm sorry, Dean. We'll have to agree to disagree.
I'm NOT dumfounded. I know how I'd feel if I waited over a year for something that I was looking forward to, and have it cancelled in a day. Different people react to disappointment in different ways.
It's like when my sports team loses a game-I stew about it for 10 minutes then move on.
Others blow it off immediately, while still others carry the hurt and disappointment for quite a while longer. Not a good analogy, I know, but I'm just saying none of us can dictate human feelings.

Whatever disappointment comes my way, at least I know I have the luxury of knowing my dogs love me. 8)

No need to be sorry.....people can always have differing viewpoints.

And I understand hurt and disappointment about the concert dates not happening.....I'm in the group that feels that way. :(

Resentment is a lot different than disappointment though and those expressing resentment seemed to base it on the rumors of a Landmark Stadium show when the west coast dates didn't happen.

Thats the only thing that dumbfounds me. If I had resentment to someone and the cause of that feeling was proven to a false rumor, I'd get over it.

And I definitely won't disagree with you about the dogs.......a simple lick to the face can cure almost any disappointment. 8)

Jimmy has not played a full concert at the stadium, but he did appear there for at least one of the home games. The stadium naming rights and his appearance are an effort to sell more beer. If sales do not improve, Landshark Lager will go bye-bye and Jimmy's merchandising machine will have a tough (if not impossible) time negotiating anything favorable with the corporate world in the future. Jimmy also played two private shows for A-B recently, one in Vegas and one in St. Louis. When The Brewery calls, Jimmy does not have a choice, he plays.

The success of Jimmy's merchandising machine is dependent upon the goodwill of his fans. That goodwill deteriorates when he lends his name to poor quality products, misses publication dates and cancels concerts. Some people see a difference between making a flippant remark like "See ya next year" and actually listing a concert date on his website, some don't. I lost track of how many times the release date for A Salty Piece of Land got pushed back. Many people feel that they can no longer take Jimmy at his word.

How many people do you think bought Margaritaville Tequila or Landshark Lager that have never owned a Buffett CD or attended a concert? They would probably all fit aboard Jimmy's Falcon.

You say don't blame Jimmy for the cancellations. OK. Maybe it's Live Nation or the MGM or his managers or the Economy that caused it to fall apart. I'll go with you on that. All I'm saying is at the end of the day someone has to be accountable to the FANS. Remember these are fans who are ticked-off---not Joe Blows off the street. Some have been fans for over 30 years and more. They've spent many thousands of dollars on Buffett tickets & paraphernalia, etc...and equal amounts of hours weaving Bubba into their various lives. All they're asking is that Jimmy show them that they matter. Give them an explanation for this fiasco...and if needed- an apology. Simple.
Actually, I believe Jimmy shows all of us that we all matter. YEAR AFTER YEAR, VENUE AFTER VENUE, he continues to show up and play again and again and again.
The venues change, the songs change, the staff changes...but Jimmy still shows up. He loves his work. He loves his fans. He is very appreciative of his fans and will tell you so if you are ever given the chance to speak with him.

He loves to hear comments about his shows and he makes changes based on what you tell him. He is an incredible entertainer, a very kind person, and a hell of a business man. And his is trying to run a business. I am quite sure that he is not trying to slight a certain group of fans by playing one venue or another.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to please every fan with his setlist and venue choice...just as it would be if you were catering an event. Everyone has different tastes and different requests.

I don't believe he owes any of us an explanation as to why shows were canceled. I was going to two West Coast shows and Orlando and they were all canceled. I had arrangements made for all three shows. I was very disappointed but knew there had to be a logical explanation for it all...and I am fine if I don't know the reason.

I think it is time that we get over this topic...breathe in, breathe out, move on. Stop pointing fingers and blaming Jimmy. Why not be happy for those people who got to attend the small shows? Hopefully, if you don't complain too much, he will play again near your hometown. No wonder he always plays in Tampa!!  Thanks Jimmy!!! And thanks for Rocky Raccoon!!! :D :D :D :D

And as long as you show up year after year, so will I. :D :D

I'm sorry that Jimmy had to face this slander and just hope it doesn't detour him from continuing to give 100% to his fan base for many years to come.
Geez Dean
You are just the eternal apologist on this thing! It's long since been acknowledged that Landshark Stadium was not the reason for the cancellations. It's agreed- you were right on that. I just think we will continue to see this thing from different perspectives and just leave it at that. I will continue to hold that in this business Jimmy's fan base is his ONLY collateral. And in the end he must be accountable to them. Especially when his actions have put them in precarious situations as happened here.

Just one question, albeit multi-parter here:

a) are they selling tickets for the Bridge Concert via TM, etc.?
b) is the publicity machine cranked for this?
c) if this is like the LI Montessori School benefits, ticket price-wise, we are going to probably going to have to go down the "a true fan would sell a kidney" route.

The drawbacks to the Bridge concert are: other than a blip, it appears this is not really getting a lot of coverage and while BN is good, it is not the "must-read" site, so the news might not be getting out. Jimmy is appearing, he is not headlining, so it really isn't a Buffett concert so much as a supporting-cast appearance and thus not a "try to make good to my fans". If the concert is part of a benefit/fundraiser, I am guessing they are not selling $40 lawn seats, and again, if it is that expensive, it's not a show for the fans unless your definition of "fan" is "folks with enough disposable income to drop $200+ per seat". (and before we hear from Michelle with her usual level of insensitivity re: pricing and ability to pay any price... don't go that way. Not everyone can, not everyone can pick up and go at the last minute, and bragging you can is both gauche and not a statistically-sound sampling of the PHN as a whole).

The Bridge show isn't a concert for the West Coast Fans as a "make good", it's a "I'm here, come with your wallet in hand for a good cause", which is better than "hey, I am in Vegas to fulfill contractual obligations to A-B/Inbev to promote Landshark" thing.

Tickets were available to the public for this show and quite affordable. Reserved seats were $150 and $75. Lawn seats were only $39.50 with four packs only $99.

This benefit doesn't really need a large publicity machine. Its been around for years and has been a huge success every year its taken place. I'm guessing thats why you don't see a tremendous marketing effort.....they prefer to save money on those efforts and maximize the dollars raised for the school.

I agree that its not a full scale Buffett show...but when the spring shows showed that the west coast was not going to support Buffett shows this year as strong as they have in the past, Jimmy could have avoided the west coast altogether in October. Since he was traveling to Vegas already and had planned to do a show on October 24th, he decided to fill that now open date with an appearance at the benefit.

It might not be exactly what all parrotheads what....but I find it hard to be critical of him making an effort to play the west coast and assist in raising funds for the Bridge School

R2 - this was a slam on Michelle and completely uncalled for. You (and everyone else )would be wise not to take this down a "personal" road at this time. The mods are not tolerating anymore personal attacks at all!

Thanks so much Dutchy and Roxanne for your kind words. When we were at the concert John said it is a pity we did not have Dutch Harbor's fishing rod to drop down from the balcony!!!
When we were in Vegas I felt so sorry for this tramp or homeless person that I gave him some money two days in a row to buy some food (or most likely drink) and said to John that because of my good deed we will have some luck. It came true and we got into the concert. The week before we came away John got 5 numbers on the lottery which paid for our holiday and I said that is because we paid for flights and accommodation to see Jimmy and then it was cancelled.

I just hope that I have not started all this agro and bickering. We have forgiven Jimmy or his management or the MGM for the cancelled shows and I just hope that next year he will play in Vegas so we can go again. We met some wonderful people from the US and just thanks to everyone that made our holiday so enjoyable - too many names to mention in case I miss a name out.

Re: the Bridge School benefit concert

After reading Jim Harrington's review of the concert (as posted by beachmusic elsewhere on this site), I'll stick my neck out and say that this is the kind of show I'd have perhaps gone to but only if I were already in the area — worthwhile cause or not. I definitely would not have made a special trip to the Left Coast to see it.
