Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
DO you think Jimmy Buffett will ever be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I think he should be inducted some day. He has been a major influence and been around longer then 25 years. Or is it more likely he will get in the country music hall of fame first.
From www.rockhall.com/inductees/induction-process/
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 500 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes - and more than 50 percent of the vote - are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

The only way he'll get in is if he buys a ticket.

If bands like Chicago & the Moody Blues aren't in it yet, Jimmy Buffett doesn't stand a chance.

Buffett simply isn't that much of an influence on the history of Rock and Roll music. Look at all the really great influencial musicians and groups that haven't made it.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

I agree with Connie---I don't think trop rock or whatever JB is considered is a blip on the RnR Hall of Fame's radar.ph4ever wrote:Buffett simply isn't that much of an influence on the history of Rock and Roll music. "Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll."
And that says it all right there. Jimmy has had zero influence as well as zero contribution to and for rock'n'roll, or in this case, rock and roll.
Not that other people should have gotten in for being even less rock'n'roll. Just talking about JB.
Personally I feel he should be in it because he's made a lot of people happy, he has been rock'n'roll (all you gotta do is listen to You Had To Be There plus how wild and crazy he was back in the 1970s ha ha), he's been a consistent touring act, he's had a number one album as well as decent (ie consistent per release basically) record sales even as well as what he's done with making his own record label (forget everything else, all the fru fru Margaritaville Land stuff - food, books, drinks, blenders, t-shirts, etc) work against the model of the Big Business labels.
But that's just me.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Totally agree. Not that I wouldn't love to see him in the R&R hall of fame, but other than Kenny Chesney, he really hasn't inspired much in terms of Rock & Roll. However, I have seen some JB stuff in the R&R HOF museum in Cleveland (if you like music, not just JB music, you need to make it there!). But that has no bearing on his worthiness to be inducted into the HOF.HurricaneSeason wrote:"Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll."
And that says it all right there. Jimmy has had zero influence as well as zero contribution to and for rock'n'roll, or in this case, rock and roll.
Now if the criteria read "Criteria include the influence and significant of other artists' contributions to the development of and perpetuation of an artist's setlist and album recordings", then he would probably be first on the nominee list.
As much as we like him, he doesn't cut the cheese right now (well maybe he does after he has had too many beers and too much chilli on a given day). Hopefully one day, they will be flexible on the criteria and induct the guy.

Maybe Jimmy needs to start his own Hall of Fame to be noticed just like he had to start Radio Margaritaville to be heard.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
No, I don't think he will ever be inducted, and I don't think he needs to do anything else to be noticed. He is a consistent touring artist, and his shows make a lot of folks happy. He influenced the Trop Rock music of now and still does, and even though the Trop Rock music will never catch the eye of the Hall of fame voting committee it still has its rightful place without the frills of the hall of fame.
