My boss didn’t come in yesterday. She was sick. A bad cold is going around here, so I understand. She showed up this morning sounding like crap, sneezing, sniffling and wiping her nose saying how she didn’t feel well. But she said she no longer has a fever, so she is not contagious. She sneezed sniffled and snorted next to me all day.

Guess who is not feeling well tonight…..

And today she sent an email asking me to not jingle my change in my pocket during the department meeting. She said she can’t hear anything else….

Another problem is if you try to use it over the holidays, you may not be able to get off. I always try to save time in the event the keet gets sick or there is an emergency. Also, absolutely no time off without pay. So...I will go to work sick.
That's awful that you can't carry them over. What happens if you get seriously ill? :(

I'm blessed that we can carry over sick days. You don't get a payout if you leave or retire but at least you have a cushion if something serious happens.

I used to work for a small company and the owner didn't believe in sick days because he "never got sick." That was in July, in September he was sick for a week. In November he missed 3 days due to the flu. We didn't let him live those down.

My current employer gives us PTO and we can use it for whatever we want. My team has had numerous discussions about this and most say that they will work when sick in order to save their days off for more enjoyable times. Luckily most of the team can work from home.

Working at a doctors office is difficult during this time of year. When you see 10-15 positive flu tests daily....it's kind of hard to NOT get sick. We get PTO and sick leave, we have to be out 3 days before they start using sick leave.

The flu went around from person to person at the office and we HAD to leave. Our boss would not let us stay if we tested positive for the flu. Strep and or regular colds we could stay at work.

I use mine when I need them,I look at it this way..its part of your pay..I mean if your work allows you so many days, they are in fact yours . My place of employment is not a very caring place when it comes to the well being of thier employees, and has many, strange rules that they can change whenever they want....ok wait ,Im going off on a rant anyway, when sick stay home!

I am blessed I guess, we can build up 13 weeks of sick time and then we switch over to short term Disablity at the 14 week until 52 weeks then our company puts you on long term disability! We are blessed because the LTD they put you on you end up with your benefits and 75% of your yearly pay.
