Recent heavy rains in the Midwest are putting pumpkin pie in short supply this holiday season. On Tuesday, food giant Nestle, which controls about 85% of the pumpkin crop for canning, issued a rare apology and said that rain appeared to have destroyed what remained of a small harvest this year and that it expected to stop shipping the holiday staple by Thanksgiving.

True story. My son's g/f made 2 fresh pumpkin pies. From Scratch. AngelBeech, RhumChum and I freaked and said "but pumpkin pie always comes from a can"

According to the story the season for pie pumpkins is almost over.

I just threw out 6 cups of homemade pumpkin puree, from the Hallowe'en pumpkin. I had made 3 pies with the rest of it, and it just lingered in the fridge too long. But I still have a whole, small ("pie") pumpkin that I didn't use at Canadian Thanksgiving, back in October.... one of these days, we'll have more pie.
It's so easy to make it yourself. Just peel and chop, put in microwave with a tiny bit of water, cover and blast it. When it's soft, get the electric masher/blender/thingy and whirl away. Voilà! Of course, the best part is adding the spices, cream, eggs and sugar --no, the best part is eating it!

You guys......... I am from THE pumpkin Capital of the World and it's true, the fields are full of pumpkin but they can't get equipment in the fields to get the pumpkins out. It has rained like you can't believe since about Aug. which is harvest time. (I know, more info than you care about Ha).
If your needs can't be met by the supermarket eh maybe I can score some of this years primo canned Illinois orange!!!
I personally know two that work in the plant if ya know what I mean.

I love pecan pie!!! It's my favorite too.
