Oprah ending her talk show
CHICAGO, IL (KTRK) -- Eyewitness News has learned that Oprah Winfrey will announce live on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that she has decided to end her talk show.
Oprah will make the announcement live during Friday's show. The final curtain will drop at the end of the show's 25th season on September 9, 2011.
In a statement, Tim Bennett, the President of Harpo, Inc., said, "We want to thank you for the partnership and friendship we have shared over the years. Your invaluable support has helped us to create the phenomenon of the "Oprah Show" that we've all been so proud to be a part of for the last 24 years."
There's no word just yet on what's next for Oprah.

Re: Oprah ending her talk show
I read somewhere that the show isn't really going to end, it's just going out of syndication, so she can do a show on her own Network that's been in the works forever.
Edit: Ah, I found one article, although this isn't the one I read originally: LINK

Re: Oprah ending her talk show
it has been the lead story in Chicago since earlier this evening. She is expected to move out of Chicago which has economic implications for the city, especially for places around Harpo studios.

I've never watched her show, more than a highlight clip.

Now that seems strange to me — one talk show moves out of a city the size of Chicago, and that's likely to have economic implications?ejr wrote:it has been the lead story in Chicago since earlier this evening. Yeah, I know Oprah is/was a somebody, but really??

Thank you. There's a reason why I call her Fauxpra...she's a fraud. Chicago can keep her, we don't want her in LA.LIPH wrote:Is there a more useless individual in America than Oprah Winfrey?

Re: Oprah ending her talk show
I'm curious. What makes Oprah a fraud? Hasn't she helped lots of people (charities) or are you just talking about the way she comes across? I don't care one way or the other, just wondering.
My mom loves her show and I've watched it, most recently when Jenna Jameson was on

3 cases in point...her "school" where employees have done more harm than good, 2 authors she pushed on her fans without doing any fact checking to find out their stories were lies....those are just off the top of my head. Her only concern is her fame. She thinks she's the most important person on the planet....what a joke. Maybe if she did a little more fact and background checking before jumping on all her bandwagons I'd have a little more respect for her, but she doesn't seem to learn from her mistakes.sonofabeach wrote:I'm curious. Re: Oprah ending her talk show
I watched her interview Whitney Houston a few weeks back and I felt that Oprah was trying too hard to act like they were such great friends but the rumor afterwards is that they do not like each other much but I don't know how true that is. It just seemed funny to me that Oprah was all giddy with the "girlfriend" this & "girlfriend" that stuff. Claiming she was so into the new album and always praying for Whitney.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:3 cases in point...her "school" where employees have done more harm than good, 2 authors she pushed on her fans without doing any fact checking to find out their stories were lies....those are just off the top of my head. To me it just seemed too much and I figured that things like that are what you were getting at.
I do think that she's done a lot of good though but just think she come across too giddy.

Re: Oprah ending her talk show
This made me chuckle a little. I sort of assume your school reference is one point and the two authors are the other two points, hence 3 cases in point. One could read this as school as one case in point, authors as the second case in point and nothing as the third case in point.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:3 cases in point...her "school" where employees have done more harm than good, 2 authors she pushed on her fans without doing any fact checking to find out their stories were lies....those are just off the top of my head.
I'm not pro/con Oprah; I personally don't care for her but I find it hard to believe that with all the money she's made, some of it hasn't been put to good use. I mean, it couldn't all go to weight-loss and hair care products.
As an aside, I would like to know what charities Buffett supports and is active in. But that's another thread all together.
