I'm onboard with the tunes played live this past summer (Rhumba..Summerz..Surfin'), but the rest don't "float my boat".
Some of the others will REALLY have to grow on me before $$ is laid down for this one.

I like most of it, some really nice laidback tunes but Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose is too much like Party At The End Of The World ie not very good. Somebody here said they had heard it and that there were too many words crammed in. They were right!

That is definitely one of the ones I just do not care for. It's just too much for me...but that's me, I know several peeps that really like it.HurricaneSeason wrote:I like most of it, some really nice laidback tunes but Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose is too much like Party At The End Of The World ie not very good. I'm a bit curious about that as well. I just went back and listened to the samples again and I don't hear it...springparrot wrote:IF the new CD sounds like Little Feat, please tell me what LF songs they sound like??

and that's one of my favorite songs from the last album. I'm sure I'll like it because it's so different and fun.HurricaneSeason wrote:I like most of it, some really nice laidback tunes but Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose is too much like Party At The End Of The World ie not very good. I have to partially agree with Gary. I don't hate A lot to drink about, but I am not in love with it.Wino you know wrote:Of the songs I HAVE heard (the ones he did live during the summer tour), I like "Surfing In A Hurricane", "Summerzcool," and "Rhumba Man", but I wish he'd take "A Lot To Drink About" and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
I really like Wings.
Can someone tell me if the debut of Wings was in Toronto? I was at the concert and I am sure I heard him say it was the first time played. Maybe I was just hoping that is what he said.

Re: Buffett Hotel Song Samples Posted (Discuss Here)
just from the samples this is my take:
- i miss the steel drums
- some of the songs dont fit jimmy
- will there ever be an album where jimmy, mac, utley, the mayer brothers, guth, macdonald, and greenidge write all the songs?

Yeah, I thought that A Lot to Drink About should remain a live song and not on the album. I don't really like it, but I think it works much better when Jimmy continually updates the lyrics. By recording it, the song is dated right away.Wino you know wrote:Of the songs I HAVE heard (the ones he did live during the summer tour), I like "Surfing In A Hurricane", "Summerzcool," and "Rhumba Man", but I wish he'd take "A Lot To Drink About" and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

The first time I heard it was this summer whenever Will Kimbrough played it for me. I believe Will's original will be on his upcoming cd as well.caly wrote:I have to partially agree with Gary. A Lot To Drink About is no more dated then Pencil Thin or Grapefruit or Carmen or Manana or Frank And Lola or other similar kinds of tunes. It's a throw back kind of song. It's very old school Jimmy.

Re: Buffet Hotel Song Samples Posted (Discuss Here)
Some of you have asked how it sounds like Little Feat? Well... as I said, I went into this thinking it was going to have some "african" influence, something like Paul Simon did in the 80's based on what I heard Jimmy used as inspiration. However what I have heard through the samples are big band arrangements with a southern sound. There is not a hint of a beach bum in there. It's like the whole record sounds like Wheel inside a Wheel.

I like most of it. I like the country touch that has been added to it (for the same reason I liked the LTC album).
Songs far less than good, but somewhat tolerable:
Summerzcool
Surfing in a Hurricane
Songs that make me want to VOMIT
:
Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose
It is so bad, I might buy each song individually from Itunes, regardless of the incremental cost, just so I can say I never owned that song. Math Sucks anyone?

Re: Buffet Hotel Song Samples Posted (Discuss Here)
I don't know much about Little Feat but it sounds like Buffett to me.
I think it sounds kinda worldly with a tropical influence much like the last few albums.
We get these threads every release, "where's old Jimmy/it's too tropical/it's not tropical enough/it's too country/Jimmy didn't write all the songs". That's to be expected on a Buffett site. When I first heard the online samples for License To Chill I did not think I'd like it much but after buying it I really liked it. Nevertheless, I've already got the 8th off and can't wait.
I'm not sure about A Lot To Drink About. It could be the Simply Complicated of this album, ya know, kinda funny, not great but not terrible.
To me the sample of it sounds better than the live version I heard.
Sounds like there might be some tuba/sousaphone in there.
As for laying money down for it, What's 15 bucks? for a release by an artist you like so much that you are always on a site devoted to him? You just might like it.
Hell I could crap 15 bucks

I agree. Pencil Thin Mustache & Grapefruit were written as nostalgic songs about days gone by. They were intentionally "dated" the day they were written. A Lot to Drink About is about current events, I don't think we'll even hear RM playing it much after a few months.moog wrote:I fail to see the comparison.HurricaneSeason wrote:A Lot To Drink About is no more dated then Pencil Thin or Grapefruit or Carmen or Manana or Frank And Lola or other similar kinds of tunes. I loved hearing the live debut of "Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose" when I was in Paris. Great song! Looking forward to hearing that one again on Thanksgiving. Thanks to you Jimmy!
But then again, I loved hearing "Party At The End Of The World" at all those shows in 2006 too.

Pencil Thin Mustache and Grapefruit Juicy Fruit are also good songs. A Lot To Drink About is a below average to bad song. I don't think we'll hear JB playing it much once this tour's over. He didn't do it tonight.chippewa wrote:I agree. Pencil Thin Mustache & Grapefruit were written as nostalgic songs about days gone by. They were intentionally "dated" the day they were written.
