The story is just breaking - apparently it happened appx 1 1/2 hours ago in the Tacoma area near McCord AFB 4 police officers were ambushed in a coffee shop while working on their computers. Preliminary news states that 2 males walked into the coffee shop, opened fire leaving 4 officers dead. None of the customers or baristas were injured.

This is the only think I've found online however it's on the cable news network here.

4 officers from Lakewood, WA. 3 males and 1 female. They were waiting for their shift to start. They were in full uniform & wearing vests. 2 employees and "a few" customers were witnesses. There was a truck "of interest" that was located nearby and tagged as evidence and taken away on a flat bed truck. The area that the truck was located in appears to have a buttload of officers surrounding it - some armed with AR 15.

Brings back horrid memories of the 3 slain Pittsburgh Officers this past spring. One of the officers was a brother to a highschool classmate.

The CEO of Forza Coffee, which is the coffee shop where this all took place is a retired police officer. Their website is already taking donations for the officers families and will also take donations at all its locations http://www.forzacoffeecompany.com/

The Lakewood police department has only been existence for 5 years and these officers were part of the start up. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/l ... od29m.html This tragedy took the lives of 10-15% of their force.

I suspect the officers bodies will be removed from the scene shortly - the honor guard is standing in line outside the shop, the firetrucks have made an arch out of the ladders and police cars are lined up a few blocks away to escort the fallen officers to the medical examiners office.

It's all just so freaking sad.

No chit Ravi. Washington hasn't executed since 2001 and because of the Green River Killer plea bargain prosecutors just don't seek the death penalty as much. Personally I hope the SOB never makes it to trial.

City of Lakewood Identifies Slain Police Officers

Lakewood Police Chief Bret Farrar publicly identified the four slain police officers after an extensive and very difficult notification process.
"All four of our slain officers had been with this department since it started five years ago. Sergeant Mark Renninger and Officers Ronald Owens, Tina Griswold, and Greg Richards were police veterans when they started and all have been outstanding professionals. This is a very difficult time for our families and our officers. The families will have many challenges ahead of them and we ask that their privacy be respected. Please keep our families and Lakewood Police in your prayers."

Mark Renninger

Sergeant Mark Renninger, age 39 with thirteen years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a wife and three children.

Ronald Owens

Officer Ronald Owen, age 37 with twelve years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a former wife and a daughter.

Tina GriswoldÂ

Officer Tina Griswold, age 40 with fourteen years of law enforcement experience. She is survived by her husband and two children.

Greg Richards

Officer Greg Richards, age 42 with eight years of law enforcement experience. He is survived by a wife and three children.
