Tom has ordered from www.fromthesky.com twice, with great results. Part of the reason I stopped wearing my engagement ring was because the coating on my wedding band had worn so poorly, and it was still in great shape.SMLCHNG wrote:Never heard of it either.spartan1979 wrote:Actually, I had never heard of it. Re: Buying Diamond Earrings. Help!
i agree but i love diamonds and such. dave bought me studs back in the mid 90's. i was there to pick them out because i am picky. in todays market i would say that your price might be about right, maybe a little high. i have just over 1/2 ct. in each ear and i recall them as being I's with a few inclusions. i brought my own loop with me and noticed that the jeweler put the prongs where the inclusions were. i was a little put off by the imperfections but when the jeweler told me the price for studs like my engagement ring i almost fell off the chair. he said that most regular people that wear studs have ones with small inclusions because at the ear most people won't know they are there. i think my studs were just over $2000 then. btw, i'm a small person and i don't think my earrings are too large. then again, i'm a fine jewelry whore.dnw wrote:Big Phan wrote:And if the jeweler can't match the lone earring, have it made into a pendant and STILL get her new earrings. Unless you can actually see the dullness or lack of sparkle in the $650 stones, I'd go that route and spend the the other $2900 on a cruise/getaway for twospartan1979 wrote:I went out this afternoon and stopped at a jewelry store that's been around a while and the 1 carat earrings where $3600. I asked about the quality and was told that they were g-something and all the earrings they carry had occlusions in them. I stopped at Kohl's to buy a sweater and while I was there I took a look at what they had. They had 1 ct. earrings on sale 65% off or $650. The quality was IJ-something.
Reminds me why I hate buying jewelry. I'm looking at these little stones that don't do anything for me and I have to believe whatever the store says they are. $3600 looks about the same to me as $650.

There's no chance I'd spend $3,600 on earrings.thebeachbumm33 wrote: Unless you can actually see the dullness or lack of sparkle in the $650 stones, I'd go that route and spend the the other $2900 on a cruise/getaway for two
I think what I'm going to do is buy some moissanite earrings and if she doesn't like them, I'll return them.
I look for the one earring she still has, but no luck. After Christmas, I'll probably have a match made.
