What has four legs and loves Christmas more then a 6 yr old?

Post by Quint »

Who loves Christmas more then a kid? CATS ! There are so many more ways for them to get in trouble. I thought it would be great to hear how everyone's cats ( or dogs ) enjoy the holiday season.

When I had mine they would do things like chew the light wires, TRY to hide up in the tree, eat the pine needles...even if they were plastic.

Then there is always that loud crash in the middle of the night. As you come running out to see what is the clatter you see a Christmas tree tipped over and laying on the floor. Next to it is a cat that has a look to it face and a tone to its meow that says -- Now how did that happen? --

Amber and Nutmeg have always been pretty good with the tree and ornaments. I hang non breakable ones near the bottom and one occasionally makes it to the floor. They never climb the tree and in the 14 years it has never been tipped over. I live in terror of putting up a tree with Domino. When she plays with stuff she throws it nearly to the ceiling and is very rough with toys. Amber and Meg have toys from 14 years ago when they were kittens that look brand new. (at least they do till Domino gets them)

I'm planning to do a pretty much all unbreakable tree this year to see how she handles it. If she is pretty good, next year the regular ornaments that I've had since I was a child will come back out.

One thing Amber and Meg have always loves is sleeping under the tree. They really miss it when I take it down. (We get a real tree every year so it can't stay up for long periods of time)

with my old cat Squirt - we had to hang the icicles about a foot from the bottom of the tree. He liked to eat them. One time, we saw him run across the room, dragging his butt. When I found him to see what is going on, half of the icicle was hanging out of his butt.

Boo would rather attack the wrapping paper and ribbon than attack the tree. She likes to lay under it - nudging packages out of the way until she has her spot. She also likes to chew on the corners of the boxes...

I would never have icicles around cats. That stuff can do some serious damage internally. :o And cats seem to find them irresistable. :P

And you'll find them for the next six months, cats or no.

We've just opted not to decorate at all. Last night, Tanker and Pippen managed to attack a pattern (my fault, it's crinkly paper) on the coffee table. We woke up to find it under the tv (I think they were using it as a sled), Tom's laptop upside down on the floor, and the two of them still running around like mad. I can only imagine what they would do to a tree, even if it was upside down hanging from the ceiling.

2 cats
Fat Cat (Austin): lays and sleeps under the tree & drinks the water. Doesn't take the ornaments down.

Punk (Tiger); Lays under the tree, bats at the ornaments, drinks the water, tries to eat the needles, used to bite the light strings (however, learned they fight back)

Yep my cat did the icicle-eating thing. Colorful kitty litter, though !
And almost every morning, an ornament would mysteriously appear on the floor, where the night before it was ON the tree. hmmmm ?????
