Remedy for minor burns...
I've been meaning to share this but kept forgetting. After an argument with the edge of a hot oven during Christmas dinner preparation I was reminded again, and am sharing.
For relatively minor burns (mine is a blistered second degree), slap some plain old mustard on it, as long as the skin isn't broken. Yellow, spicy, doesn't matter. There's something in the mustard that instantly takes the pain away.
It may be an old wive's tale, but it works like a charm!

Wow. Who knew? I had a fight with a bowl of Taco Soup straight from the microwave. I used cold water and aloe vera gel, which worked okay, but I'm going to remember this tip for the next installment.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I've been meaning to share this but kept forgetting. Re: Remedy for minor burns...
The first time I heard it I didn't believe it but there was no cold water around at the time and someone brought up the mustard remedy. I was astounded when it worked. I've seen other people humor me because they figured I was nuts but it worked on their burn, too.

Wait, is this a joke? Mustard? Really? I will have to remember that.
I am going to try it, hopefully not too soon, but I will try to remember that. Thanks for the tip.

I thought this was going to advice on how to help when one of your kids got burnt...

Good news is you only have to leave it on for a few minutes then it's done the trick and you can wash it off.
Never tried it on a sunburn.... That seems like it would be a little weird.

It's the vinegar.
When I was a kid I had a sunburn on my back because I fell asleep on a floating dock. Blisters this size of silver dollars. My aunt poured a bottle of vinegar down my back. After about 10 seconds of the most intense pain I ever felt in my life there was no pain what so ever.

Re: Remedy for minor burns...
I have those curling iron burns too! I'd heard about the mustard but felt a little odd smearing it on my forehead, lol. But if you can wash it off fairly quickly it might do the trick. I need to remember to tell my mom about the mustard trick...she's forever burning herself.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:pbans wrote:I'm forever burning myself on my curling iron....perhaps I'll keep some mustard in the bathroom....I have nasty burn on my neck right now.....HEY....could have doubled as "Eau De Baseball Hot Dog" cologne!![]()

My mom mentioned this on Christmas, then I tried it the day after (I thought I had the mitt covering my hand when I grabbed the oven rack, but I guess not all of it!). It did work.

Maybe, but I think it's more than that. I've used vinegar on a sunburn and mustard seems to work even better.pair8head wrote:It's the vinegar.
