Jokelben
Could someone please fill me in on Jokelben. Who does it belong to? Who/how is it updated, etc., etc., etc. It's a terrific resource for both old and new Parrotheads. As a new PH, I have slowly been working my way through the concerts. It helps me understand what all of you are talking about and also provides a great history of Jimmy's growth over the years. Is there a site like this for other musicians?
Re: Jokelben
jokelben is an ftp server that is open to all for uploading and downloading of shows

Re: Jokelben
Sorry, I guess I am technically impaired. What is an ftp server? And who uploads the music? Do Jimmy's peple put the music out there? Why would they do that? Why would they give away something for free when they could be charging for it? Not that there is anything wrong with that. I just went to my first concert at Mohegan Sun but was so sick I really did not absorb much. So I came back and downloaded the whole concert from Jokelben. But I still do not understand about how the site works.
Re: Jokelben
FTP = file transfer protocol.
Jimmy Buffett shows are broadcast free of charge over his internet radio station, Radio Margaritaville. A large number of different people have uploaded shows to the server/site over the last year or so. The shows are recorded either from the internet or from the feeds on Sirius/XM Satellite radio.
Newer shows are recorded live the night of each show and then uploaded to the site/server.
You can access the site over the web but the best way to do it is with a separate FTP program such as WS-Ftp or Cute-Ftp.
All shows on the server site from 1999-present have been broadcast on Radio Margaritaville. Earlier shows are from a variety of other sources

Thank you. I now understand. It's been a great resource. I just finished listening to the 1974 show from the Exit Inn.

Re: Jokelben
I love Jokelben. Since I joined BN I mainly depended on the kindness of fellow BNers to burn shows for me. About a month ago I figured out how to use Jokelben. I have the FileZilla FTP client that I use for work, so it is sure nice to use it for fun. I just downloaded the 1974 Nashville Exit In show, and it is awesome.
