I guess it didn't take him too awfully long to get over that idea, did it?

Read the complete June 1, 1993 article before getting too judgmental.
It was written in 1993 just as Jimmy was opening the first Margaritaville outside of Key West in New Orleans.
The opening was timed for his participation in the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that year.

Complete Article Here: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/199 ... fett-songs
''I think I made a D in marketing, but I remember supply and demand,'' said Buffett, whose enterprises are open to product suggestions.
As he tells it, some bankers from Chicago called in to lament, ''Some of us parrotheads have to wear ties to work,''
and they suggested a pattern for a new tie.
''It's a real yuppie tie, but it's got parrots on it,'' he said.

Buffett, who has homes in Nashville, Key West, West Palm Beach and Sag Harbor, N.Y., wouldn't reveal how much he's worth.
''More than I was 20 years ago,'' he said, adding: ''Money was never the reason I got into it.
I got into it because it beat working for a living.''

Though he plans to open more Margaritavilles, ''I don't want to see them every mile in America,'' Buffett said.
''I don't need the money, so I don't want a cash cow out there.''

''We're looking for cool places,'' he said, and the Big Easy met the standard.
''I think New Orleans is the best musical town in America.''

Yeah ... no offense meant to Tulsa
but I would agree his definition of "cool places" that meet "the standard"
has definitely been adjusted over the past 20 years.

As I've said many, many times before I don't begrudge Buffett his business ventures one iota but if you had told me way back when that he would eventually become a mogul of sorts with a chain of stores/restaurants, casinos, etc. I would have had a hard time fathoming it. He also built up his audience in a very grass roots way, for which he should be commended. I just feel that something got lost along the way. I've elaborated on that many times in the past so I won't get into it again. One can be critical in a constructive manner and still be a very passionate fan, which I am. For some fans, no level of criticism, no matter how well worded or intentioned it is, is acceptable. I'm not one of those kind of fans.

Just having a little fun. My "standards" have changed over the last 20 years too. It's a good business decision to get a few of the casinos going to limit his touring demands as he moves into his golden years.

X2- And while I do enjoy Jimmy's post A1A work, I still love his early 70's recordings best.

With that said, I've always loved the conch fritters. :)
That's not fair if you're going to quote his own words, in context, back to him.
Jimmy must be getting ready for the next phase of his life -- politics.
