Other opening songs I've liked over the years-
Stars On the Water (I know, I know-it's a cover, but it's still a fun song)
Cuban Crime of Passion (on the Havana Daydreamin' tour in 1997)
Lage Nom Ae
Great Heart
Migration (Dallas-2006)\
Also,
he did "Changes In Latitudes" as an opening song on (I think) the License To Chill tour a few years ago.
A great song, to be sure (THE song that got me listening to Jimmy), but as an OPENING song?
Oh well, as long as there IS an opening song.
And he did preform "Take Another Road" at the West Palm Beach concert in 2001-just days after Dale Earnhardt was killed. He dedicated the song (the final encore song) to Dale.
Garry those arre all really great songs. as you said "stars on the water " is a cover but i just love the way he covers it.
Yup, and it always makes me think of the Hurricane Hannah show!
That show was awesome....especially with that version of Stars On the Water as it began to pour
and closing the show with an accoustic "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season"....WOW!!!
1st and last time on the lawn!!!....i think i drowned and due to some mouth to mouth , came back to life!!

I think the perfect song to open the shows of this next tour is a cover......Club Trini's "Come on In", it's upbeat, it's inviting and as Jimmy says at the end of it, "I've always liked that song"
I like!!!
I really hope Jimmy keeps Rhumba Man in too!!
I would love to hear "Island" as a final encore!!
i know i've heard "island " as an encore at least once and i'm thinking twice. everytime i hear that song, it really tugs at my heart strings. it so makes me think of st. barths's and how i'll do just about anything to get there. i always cry.
I am crying right now Carol. You are going to St Barth's without us.
Pam, I relive the trip too. Wish we could go this year!! Miss my new phriends. Need vanilla rhum!!

Yep...and remember Jimmy called an audible, telling Mac to get off the stage and then played a solo accoustic God's Own Drunk....one of the better setlists I remember seeing live.

If a whole day can be called "a moment" that was one of them!
Already looking forward to GW Weekend 2010!

Hello Texas would be awesome, Janice!!!
I'm thinking if he does open with a new one, Nobody From Nowhere would be a good starter.

Somebody mentioned Big Top earlier.....but the first time I heard that song I thought "man, he wrote this to be his opener for the rest of his life." It's not a very good opening song, in my opinion, but the lyrics scream "OPEN WITH ME!!! OPEN WITH ME!!!!"...heck, it might as well be called "I WROTE THIS AS AN OPENER FOR MYSELF"

It's actually one of the songs I like the least

i second that. in fact the only one that i see as an opener to get the crowd moving from the new album would be summerzcool. all the others are a bit to melow.

"Nobody From Nowhere" would be my favorite new opening.
I really do love JIMMY'S version of this song!
Wow, that was tough to type, anybody else like Southern Comfort?

Great song but I think it would be better for once everybody is warmed up and rockin'.
Jimmy himself said on the RM album preview special "it's one you won't do early in the show because people won't want to miss it"

That
is the title:
"M.T.A." — about poor Charlie and the subway fare increase.
"Did he ever return? No, he never returned, and his fate is still unlearned;
He may ride forever 'neath the streets of Bahston; he's the man - who never returned!"
I saw the current incarnation of the Kingston Trio do this live in concert a year or so ago; they have updated the lyrics a little. Now, instead of his wife handing him a sandwich through the open window, she hands him a Starbucks.
