Has Jimmy Buffett ever done a benefit concert for Key West?

I was talking to a friend of ours last night and she told us that during her last visit to Key West a local had told her that lots of the residents of are not happy with Jimmy Buffett since he was once asked to do a benefit concert for Key West and Jimmy Buffett said that there is not a venue big enough for him to play such a benefit. I understand that he plays there from time to time but does anyone know if he actually has ever done a benefit for them. My feeling is that the locals would have rather have had the old Key West before the tourism and Buffettism took over and planted a tee shirt shop on every block.

This question can be answered in several ways....YES!!!!!!YES!!!!!!!!yes!!!!!!!!!
Jimmy has appeared several times at MOTM...doing concerts on Duvall and at the Casa Marina....Just the rumor of his presence being there excites everyone...and some come hoping to see Jimmy. Each year MOTM brings much needed funds to all the Bars,Musicians,Tee shirt shops,Resturants,Hotels,B&B's..... and God only knows who else benefits from his rumored presence,or his actual presence. All this is done for charities: Schools,Firemen,Toys for Tots,Animal shelters, and Blood for emergency....
Jimmy may not have done a "SPECIFIC" charity concert...not sure if there has been a specific need....he has done alot for those of Key West.....and yes, there are those who wish Jimmy never came to Key West.....But i have to ask them, "were are you from, and how long have you been here?"...that pretty much shuts them up.
I lived there for 6 mo,in 1977-78 and it was quiet,lovely and roudy all in the same day....I loved it and the houses,streets,and beaches....all ready for a song to be penned......now the streets are full of "Cruisers" and cruisers...look out little girl. The Cruise ships do more damage to the town than Jimmy ever thought of.....So.....YES Jimmy has done "Charity Concerts" in Key West...for the benefit of all

I was talking about in the past sometime ago when they actually got hit by a hurricane. It was a conversation our friend had with a local and I wanted to see if it was true.

I agree with you on most the above points and yes Jimmy has contributed a lot to the island in many good ways (better than Cruise ships) IMHO, but has he actually announced a concert with all the proceeds going to something such as a hurricane relief fund for the island or to a school? Well maybe now that I think about it the logistics might not even work. Could you fit 30-40K, such as at a regular tour show? Could you fit that many people in anyone place there? And has it ever been done?

The concert was not in Key West, but in 2004 (November 23) Buffett raised big $$ at the "Surviving the Storm" Hurricane Relief Concert in Orlando to provide relief for hurricane victims in Florida, Alabama and the Caribbean affected by the 4 major hurricanes we had that year. The residents of Key West did benefit from Mr Buffett's charity.

You know guys, maybe, just maybe, Jimmy makes private contributions that are not publicized. I have only been following him for a short time compared to most of you, but he strikes me as a very private person. I can't see him making an announcement like Brangelo just did about how much money they donated.

I was at a show at a baseball field in 1986 or 87 and it was a fundraiser for Reef Relief and Salt Flats....great show...the Steel band group the Desperados opened for the show and Jimmy came out and played a couple of songs with the band before he did his show....it was awesome...
