When was the last time Massachusetts had a Republican senator? What a victory on the one year anniversary for Obama.

Edward Brooke who was the first black elected by popular vote. He served until 1979

Brooke, of course, was fairly liberal for a Republican. I seem to recall he even endorsed Obama during the '08 campaign. So it's been a loooooong time since Massachusetts had a senator like Scott Brown. It'll be interesting to see if he can survive in '12 against a Dem nominee who - I am guessing and hoping - will not act like the seat already belongs to her just because of party registration.
