Re: Will JB ever return to the MGM in Vegas?
We were there on the floor for that show. During the first encore I had to get out.
Thought i was going to pass out as well. Headed for the restrooms and found they were closed.
Never saw the river down where we were. Still thought it was a great show that night.
In case your wondering, I was the guy in the pirate hat.
Sadly I won't be seeing Jimmy this year if he don't play 'Vegas...

Linda, if I were a betting woman, and you know that occasionally I am, I doubt that the incident with the bathrooms and overused sewer system in Las Vegas has anything to do with him possibly not playing there. If he no longer plays there there are probably a combination of a lot of reasons, and if that is the case, we will never know. It still is early March yet, and there is still time for West Coast dates to be added for fall. From how they have handled things thus far this year it sounds like when dates are added we will also get the on sale ticket dates and we won't have 6 months to plan. Just my two cents worth..Grams wrote:I wonder if the poopy thing had anything to do about Jimmy not playing there?? Just got me to wondering???

As someone mentioned before what about Planet Hollywood and the Theatre of the performing arts. I realize it's only 7000 seats, yet do a show, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, that makes for 21,000 seats sold. P-Ho is no part of the Harrah's family of casinos which includes Flamingo where Margaritaville is. Hell talk of marketing, this thing could be cross marketed among there hotels. Makes sense which could be the problem.

Re: Will JB ever return to the MGM in Vegas?
Don't forget, Jimmy did play Vegas last year! I went in Spring. Maybe some should have also? Just a thought.
The Jimmy experience in LV has changed tons since I have been going in 96 (every year since 96). Over the years I have met lots of Bners and they would say the same. It used to be about having fun, but the MGM slowly started to squeeze every nickle they could out of the parrotheads. The night before was always Tommy rockers (before the LMS party was even named) and Rodrigos at the MGM for MX food and tons of fun. The day of the show was at the little theme park. That was a blast. Dodging the flying flip flops that people lost on that huge swing ride was too funny.
Now its over priced M-ville and a party in an alley. At the Spring show LAST YEAR, the MGM even moved their party to between 3 buildings in a hot ass parking lot (from the theme park, to the pool, to the parking lot-whats next, the bathroom?). What a joke.
Vegas to me has become an over sold and over priced place to see JB.
Now that the pre-party has become a thing of the past (at the MGM) that is really not worth it, I would love for him to play the T-Makc center or the stadium. Then we could tale-gate like we can at any other show. The real JB tradition.

Have to admit the heat in May '09 was blistering!
Mrs cdnkeywest and I did enjoy the concert mind you!!
That was probably the quietest I have ever seen Las Vegas for a Jimmy Buffett show (we got into M'ville with no problem at all).

Your right about that crowd, and lots of empty seats.
First time I ever grabbed someone in anger at a JB show, the lil shiz heads wife in front of me told the usher we were spilling beer on her. It just happened to be my wifes hula skirt rubbing on her as we were dancing as her and her pouty lil bish of a husband sat the whole time.
Funny thing is, the usher knew us from years past and told the people in front to mellow out!
Classic!

I have to agree. I too have been going since '96. The changes have been enormous!!! I am not that well versed in alternate concerts sites in vegas, but I really love the idea of a place to tailgate!!!!!!!!!! How ever, I will go most anywhere on the west coast as long as I have more than 48hrs notice!FINSUPinIdaho wrote:Don't forget, Jimmy did play Vegas last year! I went in Spring. actually, before there was a theme park , it was an empty piece of land. i don't remember what year was the first jimmy mgm show, but that tail gate experience had a dj playing music and maybe some one else making announcements. also the monorail went by every few minutes and every body would wave. maybe dean might have more info.geekiegecko wrote:I have to agree. Yeah, the old theme park was so much better! A couple of years ago I filled a cooler full of beer and ice and one of the vendors said they needed to make some money so they kicked me out of the alley! I came back and the police escorted me out. I remember the good ol' days when you could bring whatever you wanted as long as it wasn't glass!

The them park opened in 1993 and I never attended a show before than (first Vegas show was probably 97ish) so I don't remember those events. The monorail though would have had to have been the old monorail that only ran from MGM to Ballys (and was free).
I just hope there's a Vegas show of some sort this year.....it won't seem like a true "summer" without one.

As a former SoCal resident and current LV resident, I have to say that the Vegas experience is very disappointing. While Jimmy's music is always great, going to a concert was as much about the preparty and tailgating in the parking lot as the concert itself. I would love to see that here.

And maybe...just maybe this could happen. The Thomas and Mack option might make that "tailgate atmosphere" possible.SinCityPHan wrote:As a former SoCal resident and current LV resident, I have to say that the Vegas experience is very disappointing. Just picture the Tommy Rocker Band in that environment....

when the key largo still existed, i bought a ticket from a lady who was into photogrphy. her user name may have been..phot ogal...turns out she should have sold it to you, since you eventually found your way to where she was sitting. or she may have retrieved you from where you were sitting. as for the theme park, could that have co existed with another piece of land owned by mgm at that time, that they did not have a use for at that time? and then eventually they decided to use the theme park for pre show tail gate ?FINSUPinIdaho wrote:The Monorail came way after the theme park.
