Sportsmanship, what is it? For decades you've seen it at every child's sports games from the time they are allowed to play group sports. At the end of the game, the loosers congratulate the winners.

Last night Peyton Manning left the field when it was apparent that the Colts would loose without shaking a Saint's hand. Some people aren't bothered by it. I am - I personally believe that professional athletes should be held to a greater degree of accountability when it comes to good sportsmanship.

So how do you feel?

Does one act of so-called unsportsmanship ruin a career of good things?

He said some kind, respectful things in an interview later!

Nobody said anything about ruining a career. I'm talking about that one act last night. Was that one act bad sportsmanship?

Yes, it was an unsportsmanlike act. He should have shook some hands.

He has a history of turning sour after a big loss. He is a great QB. The press loves him too much for his poor sportsmanship to become a major issue. He is not the first to act childish after a big game and he won't be the last. He'll apologize if the PR spins out of control. Then the press will move on to Tiger's return or whatever trainwreck sells advertising.

Really, I was unaware of this, can you cite some examples?

With all the craziness that was going on the field at the end of the game -there was no imaginable way he could have found anyones hand to shake -and your not going to congratulate them until the final whistle sounds and at that point it was mayhem. Peyton is not like that -I think the whole Colts team just got out their way!!! I was at the Giants SB win in 1990 & I never even saw the final kneel down & I was in the stands let alone on the field.

I would have expected it any of the Colts players last night but not Manning. Especially considering his family's history with the Saints. That's what is under my skin more, I guess. He grew up in New Orleans and even though he didn't get another ring he could have been more respectful since his father's former team won.

Your words led me to that conclusion. "He grew up in New Orleans...he could have been more respectful since his father's team won." If that wasn't what you mean, I'm sorry, but it seemed like it to me.

Just because someone disagrees with your position and disputes an accusation doesn't mean they are picking a fight. I am offering a differing opinion on a thread that you started. It isn't personal.

I admit that I am a biased Manning fan, even though he plays on my teams's rival. I think he is among the best to play the game and he does more than most off the field. He has a children's hospital named after him for pete's sake.

I would have thought he would have TRIED to look around for someone to shake hands with or a slap on the back. It would have been nice to see some sort of effort, since he is a paid athletic that a lot of kids look up to, you know the "role model" thing. However, I think that since he threw that interception that sealed the win for the Saints, he just became self absorbed, and stormed off in his own little "Peyton" world.

But no matter WHO IT IS, yes it is bad sportsmanship in my book.

Football ain't golf. I don't think Payton did anything any other competitor would have done. He stayed true to himself immediately following the game but he did man up and say all the right things in his post game press conference and eve call Drew Brees to congratulate him.

A sport is a sport is a sport. But if you want to go down that road, neither is basketball. Yet when LeBron James stormed off the court after a game without congratulating the other team, the press tore him up.

Besides, Peyton is a "Southerner", so he should have better manners than most.

NOT good sportsmanship! As far as trying to find someone on the field, there is so much security who immediately surround the coaches and quarterbacks, it is worth a try. He left the field before the game was over...If, at work, I left a meeting or stormed out because I did get a promotion, win a contest, make a big mistake, my career would be ruined.

So basically...I do not think there was any disrespect meant to New Orleans...I think he needs to grow up....He is paid much too much money to act like that.

Jeez Louise! His team had just lost the biggest football game in the world . .. in part because of his one bad pass. I'm just guessing here, but I bet he felt as bad as he's ever felt... probably sick at his stomach... all he wanted to do was get away... the last thing he was thinking of, or wanted to do was go out on the field where people were celebrating.
