Not very well.....to land on sand or beaches you need Tundra or Beach tires....They are those huge Balloon-y cartoon looking tires..... The Lakes tires would just plow into the sand and that would not be good....the Lakes tires are really meant for hard surface landings and I suppose would be OK running up on fairly hard packed beaches......
Piper Cub with tundra tires........

I thought I read that Jimmy had a Cessna 208. That plane looks like a floater even without the floats. I didn't attach a pic but you can look it up easily.

HurricaneSeason wrote:It's very frustrating to like these planes and yet there is very little about them in every day life. I wish there was a show or two about them. Like Modern Marvels or something. Or that some of the airplane magazines would do some features on 'em. If they have I've never seen them.
I know there are some websites about the various Grummans and others but it almost seems like a sort of, what, cottage industry? Just not very out there. Which is a shame because the planes are really cool.
There's a flying boat that cruises the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. I'm drawing a blank on what kind it is but it has the propeller facing backwards...
there's several shows on the military channel about WWII vintage seaplanes.

And that thing does almost look like a float plane, doesn't it. Actually they can be fit with pontoons as you know. But that big belly makes then look like a flying boat anyway.

I'm realizing that with a range of over 1,000 miles I need to keep an eye out for Jimmy's new Cessna 208. He can load the family up in that thing and make it to Charleston from Palm Beach or New York without a stop, and he doesn't have to fire up that 3 motored rocket ship. Of course it's the perfect airplane for island hopping.

Unusual to see a low-wing floatplane.
