Kay, you must see the movie, ALWAYS! There are some great shots of float planes in that movie and Jimmy's song Boomerang Love is on the soundtrack.
Good stuff.

Nancy, I have never heard of the movie but I will get it from Netflix.
Sea planes are constantly taking off and landing during the NBC evening news which is being done from the harbor in Vancouver during the Olympics. I've been getting a big kick out of them.

I saw the white one today with the green tail. I have no idea what you call planes, but it is fun to read these posts by people who DO!!
Here is another site with some unsightly stuff happening to amphibious planes.
Ouch. At least the plane did not flip like Jimmy's in 1994. Love the story Nancy found.
You would think living on the ocean the way I do here on the East coast that I would see some sea planes but I don't think I ever have. I don't suppose they are allowed to land in Boston Harbor which is where I am. But they must go in and out of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. I'm afraid a sightseeing trip to Anchorage is a little out of my budget this year.

To open the Olympic prime-time show tonight, Bob Costas arrived via an 18-seat commuter float plane. I don't know if that will be archived online, but you west coasters will be able to see it.

For Staredge — A J-3 on pontoons might be cute, but the most beautiful????
No arguments on the other one, though.
I always liked the looks of this one, although I understand it was known for having serious fuel problems in flight. -"BB"-

RR got it ....Boeing 314 "Clipper".....12 made.....none surviive today......there is one sunk in the Atlantic and one sunk in the Pacific.....apparently took a lot of 20mm rounds to get them to sink...... The other 10 were surplused back to airlines but by then the need for "Hopping" across the Pacific was no more and they were just too big for short hauls.......plus 4 huge engines=$$$$........
The 314 used the same basic wing assembly as the B-17 bomber (Boeing design/built)......... Which was the same wing that was used in the Boeing Stratoliner...the world's first pressurized airliner....

Yes.
Nothing beats a J-3 in any form for sheer loveliness. If God flies, he flies a J-3C65.
