Need some legal advice
I'm in desperate need of legal advice. heres the deal. i have a 14 yr old son who i gave up my legal rights to him when he was 3. worst mistake of my life. his grandma has custody of him cause back then and even now his mom has a drinking problem. he lives with his mom half the time and his grandma half the time. he wants to live with me cause his grandma treats him like s*** and his mom gets drunk almost every nite. i have no legal ground to stand on, can he go before a judge and say he wants to stay with me? he can tell the judge about his mom's drinking, she has a pretty good size police record, and him and his grandma dont get along. i dont know what to do.

Dude, you need a lawyer to answer these questions, as I'm sure laws are different depending on where you or your son lives. Most lawyers offer a free first consult, so it shouldn't cost you anything to ask them some questions.
Good luck

Re: Need some legal advice
Ok .... enough is enough.
--------- "Can anyone how to help me learn to play this song? Here is the youtube video."
--------- "I need legal advice."
--------- "I am trying to write a song. How do I do that? I have a song title already."
--------- "I need to perform a self-apendectomy ... can anyone here help me with how to do that?
Okay ... so I made the last one up.
Honestly. I read some posts and begin to wonder if I am missing some sort of *inside joke* around here.
If the above post is legitimate, please my apologies to you for my tone.
But heed the advice already given.
Get a lawyer not self help on a Buffett board.

Jb-
Even if a lawyer posted here, they likely would not give advice via the web as laws are different from state to state. Try talking to social services and see if they can do anything.

Be sure to explore the possibility of your son becoming an emancipated minor with the lawyer.

Re: Need some legal advice
So I'm assuming that Mom & Grandma aren't going to be really thrilled with this suggestion, right?
Yes, the kid can ask a judge to allow him to live with a non-custodial parent who surrendered rights. Most likely, if the judge finds there's an issue with the current arrangement, the kid will end up in foster care.
You are better off going back to the court yourself and asking that the parental rights be re-established (it can be done). If you've paid some kind of child support througout the years, you've got a much better argument than if you haven't paid any kind of support.
Call your local county bar association. Ask them if they have a lawyer referral program. Typically, through the referral program you'll get an hour or so of a lawyers time for a nomial fee (sometimes $20 - $50), and you can lay out your concerns, they'll ask you the right questions, and give you an idea of what it's going to cost to get it done.
