Celebrating Vermont Breweries

Post by C-Dawg »

Mmmmmmmm... VT beer :D
Beer is big in Vermont — and getting bigger.

Ever since the Vermont Pub and Brewery in Burlington, Catamount in White River Junction and the Long Trail Brewing Co. in southern Vermont helped usher in the era of microbrewing regionally and even nationally in the late 1980s, small breweries making beer with big taste have become the norm in the state. Just ask the national Brewers Association, which, based on the most recent numbers from 2008, declared that Vermont has the most breweries per capita in the United States, with Montana, Oregon, Maine and Colorado rounding out the top five.

According to the Vermont Brewers Association, a little more than 4 percent of the beer consumed nationally is craft-brewed, but the number in Vermont is closer to 20 percent. The state produces enough beer for 72.5 million pints a year and employs more than 350 full-time workers in the brewing industry who earn an average of $13 an hour. The promise of more breweries opening in the coming weeks means those figures will only climb higher.

Come on down sometime...I'm only 90 miles south of Montreal...I have about 8 breweries/brewpubs less than 10 miles from our house...and the article is correct, local beer makes up a large part of what we drink. Here's another cool quote...

In 2006, MSNBC listed Burlington, VT as the fourth best city in the world for beer lovers behind Amsterdam, Berlin, and Brugge.{http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15642039/} This would make it the best in The United States.

I'm not a huge beer fan but that's very cool! However I WILL be up for Tams visit/Brewery tour.

Lucky You - I'll celebrate most anything about beer. On Monday a much anticipated English Pub opened in my town. I was there last night - 10 different drafts - great decor. They are celebrating opening with a Cask Festival this week.....you know where I'll be. :D

C'mon down...we have a brew festival every summer on the waterfront, normally takes place in July....all the local brewers in one place, plus brewers from all over New England and Eastern Canada...check out the video of the main page of this site, and get the dates and brewers coming this year... http://vtbrewfest.com/

and another video from last summer's festival...

Not a beer drinker here but I love trying the brewery's root beer, if they have their own.

Just may convince me to come up north.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I can relate, if we lived close to the Cape, I'd be there every weekend too. As it is, we are currently working at finding a mooring for our sailboat, where we'll spend many of our weekends :D
