I think I'm allergic to garlic...

For the past couple of years, I've noticed that garlic upsets my stomach quite a bit. Last night after eating Italian, I had a particularly bad night....so I googled to see if there was anything I could do to "neutralize" the garlic. And It seems I have all the symptoms of a garlic allergy. I don't think it will stop me from eating it - but will see if I can find anything to help the stomach when I do eat it....

SOOOOO anyone else here have weird allergies???

Sheryl and I have a friend that is, and it is not an easy road for her! Ton's of food or seasonings have garlic in them and Maddy can't have any.. Lot's of Plain food with only salt & pepper, she does all right but when we all go out she she has a limited menu she can eat from... Best of Luck, hopefully it passes and you can still eat garlic.

Ouch, an allergy to garlic. If I had that, I do not think I would be able to live with myself being Italian.

:o :o :o

that's what i was thinking when i saw this thread. long story, but i had to give up all foods with garlic for about a month. at that time, i was used to eating out regulary. i lost quite a bit of weight on that one  almost EVERYTHING has garlic in it :o

but when you start reading those symptom lists, it's easy to convince yourselve you have a lot of things. hopefully, this will be okay *fingers crossed*

Remember to check for other symptoms:
• dental abnormalities, esp. of the canine teeth
• absence of reflection in mirror and other shiny objects
• nasty side effects when exposed to religious artifacts
• unhealthy reaction to sunlight (particularly disturbing for a Parrothead!)

Not really an allergy, but due to a condition called Burning Mouth Syndrome, have extreme sensitivities to salt, black (not red or white) pepper and oregano!!!! Funny thing is that spicy foods don't bother it at all...just those three things. The other day could even taste the salt in a JELLO SHOT! Can't tell you what a pain in the arse this is. Thank goodness hubby is a very tolerant eater. At least it helps with high blood pressure.

For many years I had similar issues...I'd eat garlic and be sicker than a dog. And since I came from a family that really didn't cook with a lot of garlic, I had a hard time telling the difference between garlicky and waaaaay too garlicky...any little bit was a lot for me. When we finally figured out what was going on, my friends would taste test my food first so I'd know how much I could eat. I gradually built up my tolerance and now it doesn't bother me at all and I cook with it all the time. My dad was the same way, but I've managed to build up his tolerance as well. Of course he still complains about garlic...as he's scarfing down whatever is being served...

Maybe it's just one of those things that you can develop a sudden sensitivity to, and hopefully it will resolve itself. Or maybe it's garlic in combination with something else. I've noticed as I've gotten older I don't tolerate really rich or cheesy sauces anymore..the lighter the better for me.

I love garlic, but have some sensitivity to it and sometimes have to be careful.

Also allergic to coconut, and mold, so now blue cheese for me.

Here is a thought about food allergies that I find interesting.

Think about the attention peanut and nut allergies have been given in the recent years. I can't get peanuts on a plane anymore because someone might die at 30,000 feet. Schools set aside "peanut free" zones in the cafeteria. What's with this? Where did this come from?

Truth be told - I'm in my mid-40's and I don’t think I knew anyone who was allergic to peanuts when I was a kid. All of a sudden...every family seems to have someone. What happened 30 or 40 years ago that we didn't know these kids? Did they die off before starting school or something  or is this something new that grew out of the 1990's?

You have obviously never cared for a person who could die, simply from eating. F*ck your nuts.
