What - only one of you mentioned cheese?
For a little bit of a beach taste you all should try some Old Bay sprinkled on top dipped in ranch or blue cheese dressing.

The thing about French Fries is that they're not really French. They're actually a Belgian creation.
Oh, I chose ketchup and bbq sauce.

POMME FRITES (French Fries) when I lived in Germany for 4 years was always served with White Gravy at the bars we hung out in.. Then us crazy Americans got them to buy Ketchup, I still like mine when we have it with the gravy...

for me tatertots fall into this category:
if they are the frozen kind that you put in the oven or seasoned fries, i like ketchup or hot sauce or sometimes both.

Ketchup. And often malt vinegar.

On the other hand, as a "who needs dinner?" appetizer, I kinda like the Western Cheese Fries at Longhorn .....
"Crispy fries loaded with all-beef chili, melted cheddar & Monterrey jack, bacon and jalapeƱos".

If they are really good fries (crispy and hot), I don't need any sauce(s) otherwise bring on the sauces (never gravy please).
just make my order Chili Cheese fries and a cold beer or a coke......yum.

it depends on my mood, but my favorite way to have fries is as "poutine".
In Canada, French fries are the main component of a dish called 'poutine' french for "a mess": a mixture of French fries with fresh cheese curds (sometimes rasped cheese), covered with a hot gravy. This dish is invented in Pointe Gatineau, Quebec and its popularity has spread throughout Quebec and the rest of Canada.
Otherwise, at home I'll have them with mayo & ketchup, or maybe ranch, depending on my mood. But, if I'm having fish & chips, it has to be vinegar.

Yes!!
I get up to Montreal and Quebec City a fair amount and I have to say you haven't lived until you've had this decadent treat. Every artery-clogging mouthful is delicious.
Otherwise, I'm a boring ketchup guy.

Yet another thing I don't eat much of anymore

, but there's a restaurant in Stowe that makes Asiago fries, fries with shredded asiago melted on top with lots of garlic. yummy. And I agree that if it's fish and chips it HAS to be vinegar.

the asiago fries sound really good
but the lots of garlic part reminds me of a place in durham that makes "famous" garlic fries. i ordered them, and they came out looking like someone sneezed on my fries
i like fresh garlic in a lot of things, but i'm just not a big enough garlic fan to appreciate chunks of fresh garlic on fries

Ketchup and mustard but usually just ketchup, especially if we have some homemade. The other day we tried sweet potato fries, with a wasabi sauce it was excellent.
Now everyone get out of here and go here.
