Is it silly of me to not ever want to buy a Dyson because of that snooty British owner guy on the commercial ?

Too funny......I've always wanted to buy one because of him. Actually my sister has one and it's really kind of amazing and disgusting how much crap comes outta my carpet when I borrow it. Would love to own one, but $400 is a little too much for me to spend on a vacuum right now.

My son and daughter inlaw have all hard floors and they just bought the robovac pet version and they love it. I am thinking about getting one myself. Anyone else have experience with the robovacs?

We had a robovac that we used on hardwood and tile floors. The thing sucked great and did a nice job, but every time we turned it on and left the house the cats got into the tequila by the time we got home. It also had severe problems with different elevations in flooring. If it hit the little ledge between rooms it would get stuck and launch itself into a little robo-seizure. We gave it to friends who have single-level floors and haven't heard from it since.

After that, my wife decided to buy a Bissell from Wal-Mart. That thing could s*** the chrome off a trailer hitch, but a cracked two cent piece of plastic has turned our $130 vacuum into a worthless piece of crap.

I've always wanted to buy an Oreck...the ads with the french maid pushing one around made for many pleasurable day dreams...

Ohhhhh.....so that's why my husband had said he wants an Oreck.......for as much as they cost, the french maid should be pushing that thing around the house......

You know...house cleaning is way overrated....... 8)

I've got a Sebo, which is a German made brand, upright, and spent a small fortune on it. It's heavy, it uses small bags which fill up quickly and it does a rotten job on cat hair, So I can't really recommend that. I got talked out of buying a Dyson because the parts are all plastic. But I am very tempted by the Dyson ball. It makes sense but have no clue how well it works.

Isn't it strange how he doesn't sound snooty at all to me - but then I am a Brit......

Am on my 3rd Dyson and would never have anything else from a performance point of view. I do however find them heavy to either push or carry around!

Geez, you sound so.... I don't know.... snotty when you say that!

My concern with your statement is that you say you're on your 3rd Dyson. Unless you have 3 homes, I'm concerned that they didn't last you as long as I'd expect. You hear about some vacuums going for 20-30 years. Dyson has only been around that long and you've had three. How long do they last you?

The first one went for 10 years plus, the second one I bought for my mum and she used it for many years (we now have it and still use if for 'dirty' jobs when we are decorating etc) The third one is still going strong after about 6 years!

They always look expensive but they are robust and seem to last for ages.....

PS Now practising my BBC english ready for Tampa......

I love Dyson, my sister has one, wish I could afford one, but I have one question for you. Do you live in England? The models they offer us in the states are not what you'd call robust looking. Lot's of plastic and bright colors. Not robust like an old Hoover. Perhaps the one's in England are more formidable looking than what we get here.

OK with all this talk and testimonials about Dyson and the British guy who invented the machine...I'm just left with one question...something I've gotta know....do they "S U C K like an Electrolux"......(sorry I know some of you are having a serious discussion about this but I just had drop one of the greatest product tag lines perhaps ever created)

Yup ! I live in England. We have been living with these machines for a long time....

Am leaving for Florida tomorrow - while I am there will have a look to see if your models look the same!!
