WTF is wrong with these people??????
Ronald McDonald is not gonna go away.
Not now
Not ever
He's too big an icon and Corporate McDonald isn't about to shoot itself in the foot by getting rid of him.
Get over it.

Re: Down with the clown
Considering I fear that our American society is moving toward Socialism, I think there is reason to fear government making further advances into corporate America. No I don't think Ronald will be looking for a new job but I do think we all need to watch what is driving America and the map we are following. BTW - In case you are wondering I consider myself a moderate-conservative and I do not watch the Glenn Beck show.

OTOH, you appear to have no scruples whatsoever about interjecting a potentially antagonistic political statement into a totally unrelated discussion. I consider that rude regardless of what side of the aisle you're on.JollyMon66 wrote:Considering I fear that our American society is moving toward Socialism, I think there is reason to fear government making further advances into corporate America. Re: Down with the clown
How about they stick it up their nether regions sideways, and let ME as the parent decide whether or not my kids should be eating at McDonalds??? Sounds like a better plan to me.

Ronald McDonald House Charities are so evil.....................................NOT
Like Staredge said, it's the parent's responsibility to decide on where and what their children will eat.

Who does this clown think he is. He's got to go. Send the creepy looking Burger King out instead to give the kids nightmares.Corporate Accountability International already runs a Web site, WheresRonald.org, which enocurages visitors to "follow Ronald's traveling circus of junk food marketing across the U.S."
According to the Web site, Ronald McDonald was spotted teaching kids math in Fayetteville, Ark.; putting on a show "all about friendship, cooperation, anti-bullying and active play," in central Ohio, and participating in a "safety day" in Orlando, Fla.

Re: Down with the clown
Perhaps I did a poor job of making my point. First, yes I did read the link. Second, yes – the issue at the surface isn’t about government…and I really didn’t want to start 5 pages of posts about “government”. My post was meant to jab at whether McDonalds could be forced to remove their icon from corporate history. Most of us would think that’s ridiculous. My tongue-in-cheek comment was meant to draw attention to the inroads government has made in our lives…I should have been more clear...sorry. I will be the first to say that all of these inroads have not been bad!TropicalTroubador wrote:OTOH, you appear to have no scruples whatsoever about interjecting a potentially antagonistic political statement into a totally unrelated discussion. Regarding your apparent impressions of me…those who know me best would tell you that I have strong moral and ethical vein that runs through me. I don’t see BN as a political chat form, although certain topics can lead some members to post political statements that come with a bit of napalm. I would say that this is one of the benefits that a representative democracy, supported by a Constitution such as ours, affords those like me, you, and everyone who lives between our borders.
My comment was not unrelated to the topic and IS directly tied into the political correctness that has absorbed American society. .. as matter of fact the political correctness that makes an asinine thought like a special interest group fighting McDonalds to remove their “mascot” a current day news item.
My apologies if this offended you but please review my many other posts, I believe you will find that “antagonistic” I am not. If you find yourself back east some time let me know and I’ll buy you a beer and we can talk politics. After all, how nasty can a JollyMon be?

Why not.... They Killed Bozo the Clown
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.

Re: Down with the clown
WTF? People don't exactly go to McD's for wholesome food. It's fast food! (Although they've made a pretty good effort to make nutritious food available if you want it.) It's up to the parents or the individual what they eat. Madness!

Re: Down with the clown
I think the intention of the group, Corporate Accountability International, is to initiate a discussion about how powerful corporate marketing strategies (and Ronald IS one) are used to indoctrinate children into brand loyalties.
Considering the epidemic of obesity and diabetes among young people in this country, mostly related to the standard 'corn-fed' American diet of fast food, I think this would be a good discussion to have.
Another part of the problem is that the junk food/ fast food peddlers have made significant inroads into our underfunded school systems, buying access in return for exclusivity agreements, another powerful corporate strategy.
If you dig into the workings of the food business in this country, you find that we are indeed 'corn-fed' and it shows on many of us. It is also driving up health care costs and killing us.
If Ronald MacDonald was flogging cigarettes instead of Happy Meals everyone (except for a few hardcore Libertarians) would be up in arms, but in the long run, consuming a steady diet of Happy Meals is going to kill our children just as dead as cigarettes would.
